Students from Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication won three awards at the 34th Young Communicators Competition, organized in cooperation with Türkiye Gazeteciler Cemiyeti and Aydın Doğan Vakfı. The students of Üsküdar, who secured one outstanding achievement award and two runner-up awards in the internet publishing category, once again brought great pride.
The award ceremony for the 34th Young Communicators Competition took place at the Hilton İstanbul Bosphorus hotel.
At the award ceremony, 59 students from communication faculties of 18 universities, including Üsküdar Üniversitesi, received their awards.
Aydın Doğan, Founder of Aydın Doğan Vakfı and Honorary Chairman of Doğan Holding; Vahap Munyar, President of Türkiye Gazeteciler Cemiyeti; Candan Fetvacı, Chairman of the Aydın Doğan Vakfı Executive Board; Sibel Güneş, Secretary General of TGC; members of the TGC Board of Directors; deans and faculty members of the award-winning universities; and the award-winning students attended the ceremony.
Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, Head of Journalism Department from the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, Head of New Media and Communication Department Assoc. Dr. Gül Esra Atalay, and Dr. Lecturer Nuray Ergindir Küçükkaya from the Visual Communication Design Department attended the ceremony.
Outstanding Achievement Award for the Project “Unnecessary Sensitivity Towards Visually Impaired Individuals”
Serdar Karan, a student from the New Media and Communication Department of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication, received an outstanding achievement award in the internet publishing category for his podcast project titled “Görme Engelliler Üzerinde Oluşmuş Gereksiz Hassasiyet” (Unnecessary Sensitivity Towards Visually Impaired Individuals), prepared under the advisorship of Dr. Lecturer Sadettin Demirel.
Serdar Karan received his award from Candan Fetvacı, Chairman of the Aydın Doğan Vakfı Executive Board.
Runner-up Award for the Website Titled “Tissue Conspiracy”
İlayda Savaş, a student from the Visual Communication Design Department of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication, won a runner-up award for her website titled “Doku Komplosu” (Tissue Conspiracy), prepared under the advisorship of Assoc. Dr. Cem Tutar.
İlayda Savaş received her award from Pınar Aktaş, TGC Board Member and Milliyet newspaper Editor-in-Chief.
Runner-up Award for the Online News Article Titled “Resistance of Green: Turkey’s Environmental Struggle”
Şahin Deniz, a student from the Journalism Department of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication, won a runner-up award for his online news article titled “Yeşilin Direnişi: Türkiye’nin Çevre Mücadelesi” (Resistance of Green: Turkey’s Environmental Struggle), prepared under the advisorship of Dr. Lecturer Sadettin Demirel.
Plaques Presented to Deans
Following the presentation of awards to the successful communicators, plaques were presented to the deans of the award-winning communication faculties. Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, also received her plaque from TGC President Vahap Munyar, along with the other deans.
