The countdown has begun for the 2024-2025 academic year preferences. As every year, students will make their choices this year to determine the education they will receive in the coming years. Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, which filled all its quotas last year, is awaiting university candidates this year with its qualified staff and up-to-date curriculum.

Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan: “5 reasons to choose Üsküdar Communication”

Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, Head of the Department of Journalism at Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, explained why students who want to study at the faculty should choose Üsküdar Communication under 5 headings.

Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan stated that students who wish to pursue education in the field of communication should consider many factors when making their choices. He said, “First and foremost, I would like to tell these students that they can choose Üsküdar Communication with peace of mind. So, why Üsküdar Communication? Firstly, we have a strong academic staff. At Üsküdar Communication, there are 4 professors, 10 associate professors, 18 doctoral lecturers, 3 lecturers, and 13 research assistants who are highly competent in their fields, working full-time. Additionally, over 20 experts from the sector teach as part-time lecturers.”

Richness of courses helps students develop themselves better

Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan noted that the second reason is the richness of programs, stating, “Üsküdar Communication currently offers undergraduate education in 7 departments: Cartoon and Animation, Journalism, Visual Communication Design, Public Relations and Publicity, Radio, Television and Cinema, Advertising, and New Media and Communication.  Starting from the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year, the New Media and Communication English program will also be opened. This program richness also means a richness of elective courses. Our students take 8 of the 15 elective courses from their own programs, 5 from other programs in the faculty, and 2 as university electives from other faculties. This richness of courses helps students develop themselves better.”

Opportunity for double major and minor programs also available

Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan emphasized that the third reason is the opportunity for double major and minor programs, stating, “These opportunities are widely used at Üsküdar Communication. Üsküdar University is an educational institution that rewards successful students. Many of our students, especially by utilizing the double major program (ÇAP), can receive a second diploma by studying in a desired second field.”

Numerous event opportunities are also offered to students

Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan explained that the fourth reason is that Üsküdar Communication is not limited to just classes and offers numerous event opportunities to students, stating, “During the last academic year, a total of 111 events were organized at the faculty. These events included workshops and competitions. Furthermore, our students participate in competitions with their work and receive awards every year. Finally, Üsküdar Communication is located in one of Istanbul’s most easily accessible locations. It is possible to reach Üsküdar Communication by all types of public transportation. In a metropolis like Istanbul, where traffic is very heavy, it is important to consider the ease of transportation.”

“Accreditations are an indicator of the quality of education we provide”

İrvan stated that the goal of the Faculty of Communication is to continue growing steadily and to increase quality day by day, saying, “Currently, our departments of Journalism, Visual Communication Design, Public Relations and Publicity, Radio, Television and Cinema, and Advertising have İLAD accreditation. These accreditations are an indicator of the quality of education we provide. Our main goal is to ensure that all our departments have İLAD accreditation and to become a faculty whose graduates are preferred by the sector.”

Prof. Dr. And Algül: “We have advanced facilities for practical application”

Prof. Dr. And Algül, Head of the Department of Visual Communication Design, stated that Faculty of Communication students have advanced facilities to easily perform practical applications, saying, “Our applied courses take place in MAC and PC Laboratories. Our 2 MAC Laboratories and 2 PC Laboratories are always open for students to use during and outside of class hours. Within these courses, students have the opportunity to apply current knowledge and topics in the field, thus organizing and realizing their portfolios. This positively contributes to students' post-graduation professional life. Internships are included in our curriculum as a compulsory course within the faculty. Students cannot graduate without completing it. Internships carried out close to graduation provide students with the opportunity for continuous employment opportunities close to graduation.”

They can both work and study in their 4th year

Prof. Dr. And Algül also stated that most students can both work and study in their 4th year, noting the following:

“Therefore, they experience the field even before graduating. Regarding applied courses, all departments within the faculty continuously hold meetings with external and internal stakeholders. Our faculty members in all departments constantly follow the dynamics of the field. They attach importance to integrating field dynamics into the current curriculum. In this context, our faculty is in cooperation with external stakeholders for both curriculum and internships. In addition to these, and a very important issue, a quality process is carried out that emphasizes the training of qualified human resources according to the current dynamics of the field. The quality process, including feedback from internal and external stakeholders, field monitoring, opinion generation, and applied courses, has been observed to contribute positively to students. Competitions and accreditation documents also prove these points.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pınar Aslan: “We attach importance to internationalization and student exchange programs”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pınar Aslan from the Public Relations and Publicity Department emphasized that in line with the school's internationalization policy, the Faculty of Communication also attaches importance to the increasing progress of international collaborations and student exchange programs.

Aslan stated, “At Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, international exchange agreements, especially Erasmus, are available. We prioritize our students benefiting from student exchange programs to experience international education and gain vision, and we do our best to keep this issue on the agenda from the first year. International student exchange is of great importance for experiencing education and teaching in different countries, getting to know people and cultures from various countries around the world, and having the opportunity to speak foreign languages fluently, primarily through cultural interaction. For this reason, we care about our students' education and teaching experience during their four years at our faculty extending beyond national and international borders, and we constantly inform and encourage them in this regard. This way, they can also consider the international dimension in their post-graduation lives and career journeys.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esennur Sirer: “All technical equipment used in the sector awaits our students”
