Üsküdar Üniversitesi Career Center Directorate's Career Days continued with sector meetings of the Health Services Vocational School (SHMYO) and the Faculty of Health Sciences. The event's speaker, MNT Human Resources Manager İlknur Genç Başoğlu, provided information on preparing CVs in the health sector, and crucial points to consider in business life and during interviews.
"Internship is one of the most important points of the working process"
Stating that she has worked in many different sectors throughout her career, İlknur Genç Başoğlu emphasized the place and importance of internships in business life, saying: "After graduating from the Department of Political Science and International Relations, I worked in banking. Human resources management was always in my career plan. I have been working in the MNT group for over three and a half years. I have had very different work experiences. During this process, I learned from my own career how important internships are. You get to know the tools and machines you use during your internship. The internship phase is one of the most important points in the working process, and you must definitely go through an internship."
"You should write your resume in clear language"
Başoğlu stated that the first contact with candidates in recruitments is made through CVs, and therefore CVs are of great importance; "We make our first contact through CVs. Your resume should not contain very detailed and complex information. Your photo, brief contact information, and address must be included. You need to stand out among thousands of resumes. Therefore, you should participate in events that can contribute a lot to you in a good way. You should state your experiences and work internships concisely. If you are a good observer and ask good questions, you can definitely improve yourself. You must pay attention to spelling rules, punctuation, and font color in your resume. With technology, everything has become possible. You can upload your resume to internet portals and continuously update it to follow new job opportunities online."
"You must be honest and conscious in your business life"
Başoğlu emphasized that mutual trust must be established with employees during internships and work experience; "In your business life or while doing an internship, if you have never used a certain tool before, you must state this clearly. Both during your internship and in your business life, your references and communication are very important. Employees in different positions need to remember you, which is a matter of mutual trust. You must be honest. Reflecting your energy and desire to the employees you encounter is one of the important factors. In addition, when you apply, you need to state what position you want to work in and be aware of what you want. Instead of applying for every position, you should apply for the one that suits you and prepare a short cover letter."
"Body language is one of the most effective points of the entire process"
Başoğlu, speaking about the importance of interviews in the recruitment process, stated that body language underlies the first impression; "You should be relaxed in the interview. What is important is to sit at the table consciously and confidently. You must go to the interview 10-15 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. Also, be prepared for online interviews. At least conduct video and sound tests with your friends to be ready for the interview in case of any technical issues. You need to pay attention to your clothes. You should prepare by doing everything in moderation without exaggeration. Handshake style and body language are also among the most fundamental elements of interviews. You should always be willing and positive in open communication. These should provide you with an advantage in your career process. You should not shake hands with just your fingertips; you should grasp the hand, make eye contact, and shake hands confidently. If you convey to the other party that you are willing and determined, you will create a good impression. Always ask questions and try to understand. For example, there are people who do not know what a radioactive area is. You need to know these things and make us feel what you want."
Başoğlu stated that internship recruitments are currently not possible due to the pandemic; "Unfortunately, internship recruitments are not being made right now. We have made our shift hours in the hospital very different. Because during this process, we do not even allow our employees to be in frequent contact with each other. We are in a sensitive period, but after these times pass, we will evaluate resumes for internships."
