Üsküdar University Career Days, organized by the Career Center Directorate, continued with industry meetings of the Faculty of Communication and the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. In the second event of the Career Days, Advencity/Enocta Human Resources and Organizational Development Manager Murat Şenel met with students, and in the third event, TRT Human Resources Business Partner Ersan Akyıldız met with students.
Murat Şenel stated that Enocta, founded in 1999, is Turkey's first distance education software company; “As a company, we have two main products. We develop the software for the distance education infrastructure, which you also use in remote learning and is called ALMS. We offer this to institutions, and through platforms like ALMS, institutions can manage and control their employees via distance education. Secondly, we produce educational content. We have a large education catalog. Advencity, on the other hand, is a software company with a 20-year history. The most popular and widespread products of Advencity, specializing in educational technologies, are the Perculus virtual classroom application. The pandemic somewhat invigorated our lives, and institutions, like schools, moved their development activities to digital platforms. Consequently, educational technologies have become a popular, invested-in, and growing field worldwide,” he said.
“A single area of expertise is not sufficient today”
Şenel stated that expertise in a single field is not enough today; “If I start with myself, as an individual with an engineering background, I have been working in a different field for years. I also saw the benefit of the department I studied in the field I work in, because I observe that analytical thinking makes a difference in the social sphere and allows me to manage some things more easily. During my university years, there was the Ford Run programming language. It was a course I took with great pleasure, but even when I was taking it back then, people would say, ‘We don't use it anywhere, why are they teaching it to us?’ The approach of understanding programming algorithms through a specific program, a software language, feels very distant to me now. Currently, a middle school child possesses more advanced technological knowledge than us. They are learning by programming,” he stated.
“We include young people in the TRT family with our competitions”
TRT Human Resources Business Partner Ersan Akyıldız said the following in his speech:
“The TRT Future Communicators Competition, is a communication competition we organize to share the knowledge we possess as Turkey's sole public broadcaster with young people, while encouraging them to create in the field of communication. It is our recruitment program through which we offer employment opportunities at TRT to recent graduates and young people at the beginning of their careers. With the program first held in 2020, exactly 266 talents joined the TRT family. The TRT Talent project, which will provide employment for foreign employees for TRT World and Arabic channels, will be implemented for the first time this year. Our aim with this implementation is to bring talented young people who speak English and Arabic as a native language or at a near-native level into our institution.”
“Leave a good story for yourself”
Akyıldız stated that reading books has a great impact on human life; “Because the more our vocabulary develops, the more effective our use and speaking of Turkish will be. However, this is not entirely sufficient for diction, especially in a normal workplace related to your field, diction is only sufficient to a certain extent. But if you want to be an announcer or a presenter, it is beneficial for you to manage this process by getting professional support at that point. It's never too early nor too late for anything. For example, I am 34 years old and I enrolled in university without any hesitation. Because I learned my education through on-the-job training, and then I said, ‘I know this job, why shouldn't I study for it and develop myself professionally?’ Years will pass for you too, after graduation, with job searching, finding a job, marriage, and children. When you look back, you need to leave a truly good story for yourself. Life is what you fit into the time between our birth and death. If you truly love a job, you should attend schools that will teach you that profession. Some things just happen spontaneously. The important thing is for you to have the awareness to acquire the necessary qualifications,” he said.
