Üsküdar Audiology graduate shared experiences with future candidates

An event titled “Audiology Program Graduate Experiences I” was organized by the Üsküdar University Health Services Vocational School (SHMYO) Audiology Program. In the event, which brought graduates and students together online, the processes of theoretical knowledge transforming into success in the field were discussed with case analyses. Owner of Pendik-Duyu Hearing Aid Center, Graduate Audiologist Fatmatül Zehra Maviş gave a comprehensive presentation to guide students who will take their first steps into the sector.

The moderation of the online event was undertaken by Audiology Program Head Instructor Elifnur Taşdemir Er and Audiology Program Instructor Ayşe Gül Elsharkawy. In the event with high student participation, the successes of graduates in their professional lives and sectoral developments were discussed in detail.

Instructor Ayşe Gül Elsharkawy: “Audiology is the art of improving a person’s communication with the world”

Instructor Ayşe Gül Elsharkawy, who gave the opening speech of the event, stated that their main goal is to show how theoretical knowledge processed in classes goes beyond exam papers and transforms into professional success in real life. Elsharkawy emphasized that audiology is not just about hearing tests; “Audiology is actually the art of improving a person’s most important connection with the world, namely their communication. Today, the experiences of our graduate who successfully practices this art in the field will be the most realistic guide for our new students. I wish this to be a very productive and inspiring program for all of us,” she said.

Instructor Elifnur Taşdemir Er: “Tomorrow, we will proudly introduce you too”

Following the opening speech, Audiology Program Head Instructor Elifnur Taşdemir Er, stated that such gatherings greatly contribute to students’ career planning. Addressing the students, Taşdemir Er said; “Dear young people, you are currently looking at your own future. Our guest Zehra was also a student we taught and examined a few years ago. She successfully completed all processes and continues her professional life equipped enough to open her own business. In the near future, we will proudly present you here as our graduate students.”

“The hearing aid sector is not just about sales, it’s a consulting process”

Owner of Pendik-Duyu Hearing Aid Center, Üsküdar University graduate Audiologist Fatmatül Zehra Maviş, gave a comprehensive presentation to guide students who will take their first steps into the sector. Maviş stated that the hearing aid sector is a special field encompassing both health and technology dimensions; and shared critical information about legal regulations, location selection, licensing, responsible manager requirement, physical conditions, and SGK document reporting procedures in the processes of opening and operating a hearing center.

Maviş listed the key steps that stand out in the field of the profession as follows:

•    Meticulous Assessment: Accurate audiological assessment and precise execution and interpretation of tests,

•    Correct Device Fitting: Determining and applying the most suitable hearing aid for the patient’s needs and anatomy,

•    Process Management: Continuous post-sales consulting, technical support, and long-term patient follow-up.

Device fitting technologies were explained through real clinical cases

Audiologist Fatmatül Zehra Maviş presented an interactive training to students by analyzing real patient cases she encountered and solved in the clinic, using audiograms.

Maviş, who also dedicated a significant part of her speech to the importance of patient psychology and communication; emphasized the need for strong empathy with elderly patients and a consistently cheerful and approachable demeanor with child patients. Maviş stated that theoretical knowledge, internship experience, communication skills, correct location selection, close follow-up of technology, and patience are important for new graduates to make a difference in the field.

The event, after answering questions posed by students via the chat section and microphone, successfully concluded, with a plan to meet again in future programs.
