Under the moderation of Prof. Dr. And Algül, Head of the Visual Communication Design Department, Faculty of Communication, Üsküdar University, the event 'Design Processes for E-commerce Platforms' was held. Ecenur Yıldırım, a graduate of Üsküdar University's Visual Communication Design Department with second-place and high honor degrees, and a double major from the Advertising Design and Communication Department, attended the event as a guest.
In the event held online, Ecenur Yıldırım emphasized that the most widely used e-commerce platforms today are websites.
“We must prioritize user-centricity when creating designs”
Ecenur Yıldırım, stating that designers bear a significant burden when designing websites, said: “Design is the first and even the most important element that affects the user on websites or platforms. The person entering the platform or website, the user, directly encounters the design before engaging with the product's details. It is our responsibility to transfer the positive effect created by the decor in a physical store to the digital realm. When creating designs, we must primarily be user-centric. We should design by keeping in mind that we are also users. We should aim for designs that are as simple and plain as possible, completely focused on what we want to emphasize. Especially when creating a website, our shopping icon must be visible in all situations. We must convey this to the user to serve our purpose and enable them to complete their purchase. We must use quality visuals, quality videos, and quality photos. In the designs we create, we must pay attention to their compatibility on both websites and mobile devices.”
“The user needs to be able to reach us at any time”
Ecenur Yıldırım, emphasizing what should not be done rather than what should be done, said: “On the site or in other designs we create, our contact information must be complete. Because the user needs to be able to reach us at any time, and we need to convey this. There should not be complex page layouts; in other words, the user should not have to navigate several pages to find something in the same category. Our page speed is also very important. This is not directly related to design, but we must mention it as these aspects form a whole. We need to include certificates; we must show the user whether it is secure.”
