Üsküdar University participated with a significant invention at the 17th International Defence Industry Fair held between July 22-27. The ‘Unmanned Underwater Rescue Vehicle,’ displayed at the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office stand and whose patent application was successfully concluded, attracted intense interest. The invention was also evaluated by TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın and deemed suitable for production. While collaboration for prototype production was made with Metatıp Sağlık Teknolojileri A.Ş., Üsküdar University's Social Contribution Coordination Office stated that it would offer funding and networking support for the project.
Üsküdar University was at the 17th International Defence Industry Fair
The 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF’25), one of the world's leading defence industry fairs, was held between July 22-27, 2025, at Istanbul Expo Center (İFM), Atatürk Airport, Ataköy Marina, and WOW Convention Center. The fair, attended by representatives from 103 countries, hosted over 120,000 visitors.

The invention was met with great interest by visitors
At the fair, one of the three inventions selected and displayed by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office was the ‘Unmanned Underwater Rescue Vehicle’ developed by Üsküdar University. The invention, whose patent (utility model) application was successfully concluded, attracted intense interest from fair visitors.
Evaluated as suitable for production
TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın visited the stand and received detailed information about the invention. Prof. Dr. Aydın stated that the underwater rescue system was beneficial and could be considered a suitable model for production.
A significant need for challenging marine conditions…
Dr. Ayhan Özşahin, Faculty Member at Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine, who developed the invention, stated that their model was designed for rescuing people from vessels involved in accidents under challenging marine conditions. Özşahin emphasized that the model arose from a significant need, especially concerning the safety of underwater search and rescue teams and seafarers.
Following the positive feedback received during the fair, Dr. Ayhan Özşahin, Electrical-Electronics Engineer Kaan Özşahin, Computer Engineer Kaan Emre Şanverdi, and Dr. Mustafa Şanverdi, one of the partners of Metatıp Sağlık Teknolojileri A.Ş., signed a solution partnership for the production of the model's prototype.
Social contribution coordination office will also contribute
Dr. Nebiye Yaşar, Social Contribution Coordinator at Üsküdar University, stated that they would provide support in establishing the necessary connections and securing funding during the project's implementation.
