Üsküdar Üniversitesi Education Institutions and Guidance Services Manager, Exp. Psy. Con. Ece Tözeniş, made an evaluation regarding the announcement of YKS 2021 results.

Candidates should make preferences according to success ranking
YKS 2021 results have been announced. Now, the preference marathon awaits candidates. University candidates will be able to make their official preferences between August 5th and August 13th, 2021. Experts, stating that they did not expect the results this early, underline the importance of making preferences based on success ranking. Experts advise candidates to visit universities.
Stating that YKS results were announced earlier than expected, Exp. Psy. Con. Ece Tözeniş said, “Actually, the calendar was set for August 4, 2021, but it was announced a bit earlier. As of July 28, students will now be able to see their AYT and TYT results and create their preferences accordingly. However, the official preference process will take place between August 5 and August 13.”
They can visit universities and get information
Noting that students can visit universities during the preference process, Exp. Psy. Con. Ece Tözeniş said, “The early announcement of the results will provide an advantage to students. Prospective students can now visit universities, meaning they will have two weekends instead of one. Thus, those who have time during these two weekends can go to universities and get one-on-one information from lecturers, preference advisors, and students at the universities. Students located outside the city can also reach universities online to get information.”
Making preferences based on success ranking is important
Stating that ÖSYM has not yet announced the rankings, Exp. Psy. Con. Ece Tözeniş said, “There is a differentiation in success rankings compared to last year, but we will still make preferences based on success rankings this year. Success ranking is very important. Scores change every year, but making preferences based on success rankings is much more accurate. This year, we will again look at success rankings, and the data we have includes the 2020 success rankings, which are already in the guide. We will make preferences according to these success rankings. How will we make preferences? We have 24 preference rights. We do not have to fill all 24 preferences, but my suggestion to students is to use half of their success ranking for higher preferences and half for lower preferences. Of course, it is important that these are departments they desire.”
Prospective students should make a list
Advising university candidates to prepare a list during this period, Ece Tözeniş said, “We have 24 preference rights. But first, they should make a list and ranking. Then they can go to universities, meet with academics, preference experts, and students, identify the most suitable departments and programs for themselves, and gradually eliminate these lists to make a decision. Here, it is very important for the student to identify departments that match their interests and are suitable for them.”
Special conditions and explanations must be read
Emphasizing that prospective students must read the special conditions and explanations before submitting their preferences, Ece Tözeniş warned, “These explanations contain information about the preparatory class. They need to find out whether the campus of the department they will study is outside the city or in the city center. Some departments have certain rules. They have rules regarding attire and internships. Prospective students need to evaluate whether all of these are suitable for them. Why are these important? Because if a student does not meet the conditions in the special conditions and explanations, unfortunately, they cannot register even if they are placed. This is a critical point. Therefore, they must read the special conditions and explanations.”
How will candidate clustering be shaped?
Exp. Psy. Con. Ece Tözeniş, stating that results regarding clustering are currently expected from ÖSYM, said, “ÖSYM announced the results but did not share numerical data. We will see after they share the numerical data. If we evaluate why there was a difference, last year there was a subject restriction. Candidates were not responsible for 12th-grade subjects, but this year students were responsible for all subjects they covered throughout 4 years. This was heavily debated last year.”
Tözeniş: “We guide candidates…”
Stating that they informed university candidates about career and university choices on the 'Hayat Tercihtir' (Life is a Choice) program broadcast on TV100 screens on Saturdays and Sundays, Tözeniş said they guide candidates on every platform. Tözeniş added that as Üsküdar Üniversitesi, they have started preference and promotion days with their preference counselors, and they welcome all prospective students to the university.
