They are trained uniquely…

Üsküdar University, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy, is training Turkey's forensic scientists. Comprehensive 4-year undergraduate education in theoretical and practical aspects is provided in the Department of Forensic Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy: “They have no rivals in this field”

Üsküdar University Vice Rector and Director of the Institute of Addiction and Forensic Sciences, Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy, stated that they are unrivaled in this field and expressed their happiness at training the first forensic scientists.

Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy reminded that Üsküdar University's Department of Forensic Sciences graduated its first students this summer, and noted with happiness that the department's first students graduated in the 2020-2021 academic year with the unrivaled title of ‘Turkey's first forensic scientists’.

They will contribute to the advancement of justice services…

Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy stated, “Some of our graduates took the KPSS exam, and some applied to our university's Institute of Addiction and Forensic Sciences to pursue a master's degree in Forensic Sciences, Criminal Justice, or Biosecurity.” She added,  “Among our students, there will be those who will continue their careers with doctoral studies under our roof, thus producing associate professors and professors with Forensic Sciences degrees who will contribute to the further advancement of our country's justice services. Some of our students will form companies among themselves, providing expert witness services under a broad umbrella ranging from document examination to audio and video analysis for both prosecution and defense. They will also register on the expert witness lists of our courthouses after completing the basic expert witness training offered at our university.”

Application to FEPAC, the world's sole accredited body, is underway

The Üsküdar University Department of Forensic Sciences, whose course contents are shaped towards the scientific field and international standards, aims to produce graduates who will work in private or official criminal laboratories, conduct scientific research, develop new methods and tools, and implement them, just as in all developed countries. This year, it is applying to FEPAC, the world's only accreditation body in forensic science education.

They will combat terrorism, human trafficking, and cybercrimes…

The success of preventing and solving all types of crimes, especially terrorism, human trafficking, child abuse, cybercrimes, illegal drug and arms trafficking, bribery, and counterfeiting, is directly dependent on the presence of qualified human resources working in forensic sciences, crime scene investigation at international standards and quality, and the analysis of evidence collected from the crime scene, victims, suspects, and witnesses with modern knowledge and technologies. Graduates with these qualifications will be equipped with artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in big data analysis, forming an indispensable workforce in the prevention and elucidation of crimes.

They will free the country from foreign dependency…

On the other hand, in today's world where borders are abolished and crime knows no bounds, and technological developments are closely monitored by illegal forces, professionals working in forensic sciences are trained not only to transfer knowledge and technology from developed countries but also to develop new tools, methods, and technologies aimed at obtaining patents, thus freeing our country from external dependency.

Through undergraduate education in Forensic Sciences, individuals capable of interdisciplinary thinking, possessing a strong and reliable scientific foundation, and solid laboratory experience are trained, thereby advancing expert witness services beyond their current state.
