Türkiye's first and only Neuropsychophysiology laboratory opened at Üsküdar University

Üsküdar University has added another first to Türkiye's scientific research infrastructure.
Türkiye's first and only Neuropsychophysiology Research Laboratory, established within the Department of Neuromarketing of the Institute of Social Sciences, was opened with a ceremony. Equipped with advanced technology devices, the laboratory will host research examining human behavior in its cognitive and physiological dimensions, making significant contributions to interdisciplinary studies in the fields of psychology, neuroscience, neuromarketing, health sciences, engineering, and behavioral sciences.

The opening ceremony of the laboratory was attended by President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Rector Prof. Nazife Güngör, Head of the Department of Neuromarketing of the Institute of Social Sciences and Laboratory Manager Asst. Prof. Selami Varol Ülker, and academicians.
Opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony
At the opening, participants were informed about the laboratory's establishment purpose, research infrastructure, and scientific goals. Following the speeches, the laboratory was inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Following the ribbon-cutting, participants toured the laboratory to examine its research infrastructure on-site. Information was shared about the advanced technology devices in the laboratory, the research to be conducted, application areas, and contributions to educational processes.

Prof. Nevzat Tarhan: “Our scientific research infrastructure continues to strengthen”
Speaking at the opening, President of Üsküdar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan stated that strong research laboratories are one of the most important factors increasing universities' scientific production capacity. Tarhan said; “Our scientific research infrastructure continues to strengthen.”
Tarhan stated that Türkiye's first and only Neuropsychophysiology Research Laboratory will provide an important research environment for students, academicians, and researchers, expressing his hope that the laboratory will make valuable contributions to studies examining human behavior with scientific methods. Tarhan thanked those who contributed to the establishment of the laboratory.

Prof. Nazife Güngör: “It will strengthen the university's understanding of knowledge production”
Rector Prof. Nazife Güngör stated that the Neuropsychophysiology Research Laboratory offers a strong research infrastructure that will bring together researchers from different disciplines under the same roof. Güngör said; “Thanks to this laboratory, our university's understanding of knowledge production will be strengthened.” Güngör wished that the scientific studies to be carried out in the laboratory would make significant contributions to national and international research.

Asst. Prof. Selami Varol Ülker: “Applied research will be strengthened”
Head of the Department of Neuromarketing of the Institute of Social Sciences and Laboratory Manager Asst. Prof. Selami Varol Ülker stated that the Neuropsychophysiology Research Laboratory, which is the first and only in Türkiye, will make significant contributions to scientific research. He added that the laboratory will especially strengthen applied research in undergraduate and postgraduate education processes, bringing together researchers from different disciplines in joint projects and adding value to national and international scientific studies.

Cognitive and behavioral processes will be analyzed with advanced technology
The Neuropsychophysiology Research Laboratory was established to examine individuals' cognitive, emotional, and behavioral processes with objective physiological measurements.

In the laboratory, participants' cognitive and physiological responses to different stimuli will be evaluated using Eye Tracking (Eye Tracking System), Electroencephalography (EEG), Shimmer Biophysiological Measurement System, and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies.

Thanks to these systems, eye movements, brain activity, heart rate, skin conductivity, and other physiological data will be recorded with high accuracy, and the obtained data will be used in scientific research with advanced analysis methods.

Türkiye's first and only laboratory will guide research
The laboratory infrastructure includes two EEG systems (Epoc Emotiv), two Virtual Reality (VR) systems, one Eye Tracking system, and one Shimmer biophysiological data collection system.
These devices can be used individually or simultaneously. Thus, interdisciplinary scientific studies can be conducted in many areas, especially attention, perception, emotion, decision-making, learning, stress, human-computer interaction, neuromarketing, and clinical research.

The center, which is Türkiye's first and only Neuropsychophysiology Research Laboratory, offers a unique research environment where cognitive processes can be evaluated with physiological measurements thanks to its integrated research infrastructure. The laboratory aims to contribute to the conduct of innovative research in many fields, especially neuromarketing, by supporting interdisciplinary scientific studies.

Extensive contribution from education to international projects
The Neuropsychophysiology Research Laboratory will not only provide applied support to undergraduate and postgraduate education processes but also host national and international research projects.
The laboratory, which will support scientific knowledge production with its contemporary research infrastructure, aims to contribute to innovative studies to be carried out in the fields of psychology, neuroscience, health sciences, engineering, and behavioral sciences.
