Üsküdar University SHMYO Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mesut Karahan and Üsküdar University SHMYO Electroneurophysiology Program Head Lecturer Öznur Özge Özcan gave TÜBİTAK project writing training for SHMYO students. Providing information about the training, Karahan said; “The things to be taught here should not be limited to projects only. What you gain here will be beneficial to you throughout your life.”
“The things to be taught here should not be limited to projects only”
Karahan; “2209-A was a chance given especially to four-year students. With this year, it was announced that TÜBİTAK would allow it to be given to our students in vocational schools of health services for the first time. Its budget changes. Currently, it is 4000 TL, but it could be 5000 or 6000 in 2022. Our plan for 2022 is to provide this type of project to many students, even if only half of them, in vocational schools of health services. That's why we said, let's provide training. The things to be taught here should not be limited to projects only. What you gain here will be beneficial to you throughout your life. For example, we show how a literature review is done. Unfortunately, we don't have the chance to show this in classes. Whether you use it in a project, in an assignment, or in something else in your life is entirely up to you.” he said.
“TÜBİTAK supports projects that can achieve their goals in a short time”
Electroneurophysiology Program Head Lecturer Öznur Özge Özcan, speaking about TÜBİTAK and its work; “Let's say you have an idea and want to work on it with TÜBİTAK in our country. This idea could be about a patient, an animal, or entirely focused on preparing materials. In other words, it can be carried out without a living organism. That's why every idea is very valuable when you think about it. Sharing this with our instructors will be very valuable. Because the people you share your ideas with are knowledgeable in this field, and I'm sure they will guide you in the best way. The importance of 2209-A here is this: TÜBİTAK doesn't expect anything too grand from us. It only wants short methods related to whether we can establish research and adapt it to the literature. TÜBİTAK supports projects that can achieve their goals in a short time. 2209-A is like the first step where we can complete a research. It enables students in our country to participate in and sustain research.” she said.
“Cannot reapply with the same title and project idea”
Özcan, speaking about the application conditions; “We cannot make more than one project application. Under the condition of being accepted for 2209-A, if we have been previously accepted and completed the project, further support cannot be received from TÜBİTAK for the same project. Reapplication with the same title and project idea is not allowed. You can participate in the program with your advisor or as a single project coordinator. As a team, you can apply for projects with a maximum of four people besides the project coordinator. Advisors who have completed their doctoral qualification can provide you with consultancy on this matter. This means you need to learn the way and bring the project to the acceptance stage. Now, students studying for two-year degrees can also apply. After your project is accepted, you must start it in such a way that it will be completed within one year at the latest before finishing your undergraduate and associate degree education.” she stated.
“Projects are a very good key”
Özcan, advising students on project writing; “First, we research, then we gather information, and we interpret the information we collected. Being able to interpret information and achieve this as a team, reaching a common result through exchanging ideas with each other, is very valuable. These are very big steps in your life. They are important situations that can provide you with different perspectives. As a project coordinator, you will be responsible both to the university you applied to and to TÜBİTAK, which agreed to support you. If your work doesn't fit within 12 months or the allocated budget is insufficient, you can submit your project to TÜBİTAK in parts. TÜBİTAK has different numbered and budgeted pathways, such as 2209-A. As you overcome these paths, projects are actually a very good key.” she stated.
