Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, Radio, Television and Cinema Department, in cooperation with TRT Academy, held a “Communication and Media Training” event. Within the scope of the event, TRT Producer Mustafa Gürsoy and TRT Announcer Mehmet Çelikyay met with students.
'Directing, producing is a multi-layered job'
TRT Producer Mustafa Gürsoy, who gave a presentation on 'Studio Program Production Processes on Television' within the scope of the event, advised students that they should clearly identify the field they will choose. Gürsoy said: 'Directing, producing is a multi-layered job. If you are a director or producer, you should master not just one area but multiple areas. You should read a lot, research, and work diligently. We need to know, develop ourselves extensively, and keep up with trends. You also need to be enterprising. The more eggs you have in your basket, the more beneficial it is for you. You need to identify your chosen field very well and progress from that area. You can be a director, editor, cameraman, or scriptwriter. If you are interested in news, you can be a reporter. If your diction is good and you think you can do it, you can work in front of the screen. As far as I can see now, there are people from communication faculties who work in front of the screen. What is important here is that it would be much better if you pursue what you are interested in, what you are talented at, but circumstances can pull you into different things. When I first joined TRT, I went through many exams, but now it is easier to get into TRT. Many of our friends started working from the 'Young Talents' program. All of them have truly developed themselves. They certainly have languages, they have done things, produced things, and gone through stages of finding their talents.'
'I always pursued my ideal'
Gürsoy, evaluating that students should always build upon what they do and improve themselves, said: 'Everyone can do our job, but we cannot do everyone's job. At TRT, there are veterinarians and mathematicians now. There are people graduated from every department. Nobody says, 'You graduated from the faculty of communication, come and start working immediately.' Of course, there are advantages, but you also need to add to it. When you start working, you are always one step ahead. I felt this very strongly myself. When I applied to TRT, after passing five exams, the very experienced television professionals who wanted to hire me knew that I was doing my own editing and montage. They said, 'Let's hire you as an editor.' I said, 'No, I don't want to be an editor. I want to work as a producer, director.' I think, 'I can't pass this elimination,' but I do. I think, 'I can't pass another elimination,' but I do. I said, 'I want to work in television,' and then I had passed. I always pursued my ideal.'
'2022 TRT Future Communicators Competition' application deadline is June 30!
Nurten Erdem, from the head of TRT Communication and Media Training course, informed students about the '2022 TRT Future Communicators Competition'. Erdem said: 'You are among the lucky ones who study and work in the Radio and Television department. The '2022 TRT Future Communicators Competition' is being held for the eighth time this year. Üsküdar University is a very successful school in this competition. I believe you will also achieve very successful results in other categories. You have academics who are concerned about this, but I think your infrastructure is really good. This competition is organized in a total of 13 different categories. This year, we especially want to include a 'communication campaign'. There are no subject restrictions in the other 12 categories, except for one. The subject restriction will only be in the communication campaign, and the topic is: 'Climate Crisis.' The application deadline is June 30. Pre-evaluations are really important to us, and we take them very seriously. Every submitted work is evaluated in detail by a subject matter expert. The jury consists of at least five or six people. Each jury conducts its own evaluation and assigns a score between zero and one hundred. Evaluations are made using the mathematical average. If a work wins first place, it is based on the mathematical average of 11 different evaluations. The award ceremony for the competition will be held in the last months of September.'
On the second day of the event, TRT Announcer Mehmet Çelikyay met with students. In the event, which was held in two sessions, Çelikyay shared insights on 'Correct and Ethical Use of Turkish'.
