Treatment Aimed at Rapid Tissue Healing…

The project, titled 'Fabrication and Evaluation of Chitosan-Based In Situ Hydrogels Enriched with Ferulic Acid Reinforced with Chondroitin Sulfate for Cellular Regeneration,' in which Prof. Dr. Mesut Karahan, Director of the Vocational School of Health Services, takes part as a researcher, has been awarded support by the UCSI University Research Excellence&Innovation Grant (REIG). The project aims to find a treatment method that can rapidly heal tissue.

“We Aim to Find a Treatment Method That Can Rapidly Heal Tissue”

In collaboration with Üsküdar University and Malaysia's UCSI University, the aim is to develop a new generation drug formulation that can be used in the future to treat difficult-to-heal and deep diabetic wounds. Providing information about the project, Prof. Dr. Mesut Karahan, Director of the Vocational School of Health Services, noted that they aim for the desired tissue to be affected within the targeted timeframe. Karahan stated, “The enrichment of the hydrogels to be created with chitosan-based chondroitin sulfate and ferulic acid, along with controlled drug release and targeting the drug to the wound area, will be very beneficial in the future, especially in the treatment of deep wounds caused by diabetes. In light of this project, while more effective treatment is aimed by innovative systems reaching the site of action, enrichment with materials that will contribute to cellular regeneration is intended to affect only the target tissue within the desired timeframe. Thus, we aim to find a new treatment method that can rapidly heal tissue for people whose wounds do not heal and who suffer greatly.”

A Technological Production Development is Aimed in Wound Treatment…

Stating that he is very happy to be a part of such a project, Prof. Dr. Mesut Karahan said, “Thanks to Üsküdar University’s scientific project collaboration with Malaysia’s UCSI University, we aim to implement a project in our university’s laboratories that will develop a technological production usable in wound treatment. I am very happy to be a part of such a project.”
