Üsküdar Üniversitesi Human Rights Studies Application and Research Center, in collaboration with the Turkish Human Rights and Equality Institution (TIHEK), held an informative conference titled 'TIHEK Anti-Discrimination Strategy' via Zoom on December 10, World Human Rights Day. TIHEK Expert Dr. Ertuğrul Yazar participated as a speaker in the conference, moderated by Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, Director of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Human Rights Studies Application and Research Center (İHAMER).
He mentioned the Establishment Law No. 6701
TIHEK Expert Dr. Yazar, who first touched upon TIHEK's establishment purpose and legislation in his speech, spoke about the institution's three main duties: the protection and promotion of human rights, the national prevention mechanism, and anti-discrimination and equality. Yazar stated: “The Establishment Law No. 6701 is a product of our country's anti-discrimination and equality policy and is a special law for protecting and promoting the rights and freedoms of many groups, especially individuals with disabilities. The protection and promotion of fundamental rights and freedoms, which frame a life worthy of human dignity, and ensuring that no one is subjected to discrimination and everyone receives equal treatment in benefiting from these rights, is an essential element of our society's core values and common civilizational heritage, as much as it is of universal norms.”
Dr. Ertuğrul Yazar: “TIHEK carries out numerous activities within the scope of its duties and powers”
Dr. Ertuğrul Yazar, who referred to international symposiums, seminars, national workshops, and meetings held within the scope of the institution's duties and powers, particularly regarding anti-discrimination and equality, and provided examples from individual application decisions and trainings, stated: “TIHEK carries out numerous activities within the scope of its duties and powers. They contribute to studies related to their field of duty and examine and resolve many cases that resonate in society. In addition, they participate in and contribute to numerous events of their national and international stakeholders. Üsküdar Üniversitesi also holds a very important place among these stakeholders.”

Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı conveyed his thanks to the students of Üsküdar Üniversitesi's Sociology Department and Molecular Biology and Genetics Department for their participation, stating: “As Üsküdar Üniversitesi, our information and awareness-raising activities in the field of human rights, in cooperation with TIHEK, and especially the December 10 World Human Rights Day conference series, will continue.”
