Üsküdar University opened three new laboratories to ensure that students of its Vocational School of Health Services receive a higher quality education. In this context, the opening ceremony of the Podology Laboratory, Hair Care and Beauty Services Laboratory, and Pathology Laboratory was held. The modern laboratories, aiming to make learning permanent by putting theoretical knowledge into practice, are equipped with various training sets, enabling students to receive practical education. The laboratories aim to train future health professionals and bring equipped individuals to the sector.

The opening ceremony was attended by Üsküdar University Founding Rector and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, academicians, and program students.

During the ceremony, detailed information was shared about the opportunities and training sets offered by the laboratories.

Tarhan and his delegation first visited the Podology Laboratory.

Foot health is addressed with a scientific approach

Lecturer Muharrem Tosun, providing information about the laboratory, stated that the laboratories will equip students better in protecting foot health and preventing diseases.

The Podology Laboratory, overseen by Podology Program Head Dr. Lecturer Simge Arkan Özdemir, offers an important practical training area for students studying in the field of foot health.

Dr. Lecturer Simge Arkan Özdemir: “We aim to provide an environment where they can put theoretical knowledge into practice”

Dr. Lecturer Simge Arkan Özdemir provided information about the Podology laboratory. Özdemir said; “Our students who wish to receive education from the Podology program benefit from this laboratory. Practices are carried out especially in field courses, accompanied by competent and experienced podologists in the field. The aim is to train qualified health professionals who can appropriately perform foot care as directed by physicians recognizing foot problems, and who can carry out medical procedures in healthy individuals. In this regard, our goal in our laboratory is to provide an environment where our students can put their theoretical knowledge into practice. We aim to develop our students into experts in their field thanks to the modern technology-equipped laboratory equipment in our laboratory.”

The Podology Program focuses on the recognition of foot problems and providing foot care for individuals directed by physicians. Many applications are carried out in the laboratory, such as medical foot care, orthonixy methods, onychoplasty applications, bandaging, and wrapping techniques.
Additionally, basic treatment-oriented applications such as the assessment of foot health problems, nail pathologies, and calluses are also taught to students within the scope of the laboratory.

Aiming to bring equipped and innovative individuals to the sector

Later, the Hair Care and Beauty Services Laboratory was visited. The Hair Care and Beauty Services Laboratory, overseen by Program Head Lecturer Birgül Erbaş, offers a modern educational environment to train competent professionals needed in the sector.

Lecturer Birgül Erbaş: “They are preparing for the sector in the best way”

Lecturer Birgül Erbaş, emphasizing that the trainings are carried out practically with up-to-date technology devices, said; “We are in our laboratory where our practical trainings take place. Our students are preparing for the sector in the best way by transforming their theoretical knowledge into practice here. We conduct our trainings practically with devices equipped with current technology. The HydraFacial device is a state-of-the-art system used for deep cleansing and rejuvenation of the skin. The G5 massage device plays an important role in body care by accelerating blood circulation. Cavitation and radiofrequency devices are used in regional slimming and skin tightening applications. The lymphatic drainage device helps to eliminate edema in the body and support the circulatory system. Our students have the opportunity to learn and apply epilation techniques in our laboratory. In addition, they gain professional competence by receiving comprehensive training in professional make-up applications, hair cutting, coloring, styling, and care. As Üsküdar University, we prepare our students for the sector in the best way with the trainings we provide in our well-equipped laboratory.”
In the laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, students receive training in many areas such as hair care, skin care, make-up applications, and epilation techniques.

Thanks to the practical applications carried out under the guidance of expert academicians in the field, students have the opportunity to lay the foundation for a successful career in the sector by putting their theoretical knowledge into practice.

The procedures on the path to the diagnostic process take place in the laboratory

Afterward, the Pathology Laboratory was visited. Laboratory supervisor Lecturer Eda Yetimoğlu drew attention to the importance of the laboratory, which was designed to enhance students' professional competencies.

Lecturer Eda Yetimoğlu: “We aim to prepare our students for the field”

Lecturer Eda Yetimoğlu, emphasizing that they aim to prepare students for the field by combining theory with practice, stated; “Pathology is a laboratory where all kinds of organ, tissue, fluid, and smear samples taken from patients are examined. We aim to prepare our prospective pathology technicians for the field by reinforcing the theoretical knowledge they have acquired with practical application in the laboratory. The work we do here covers all processes from when the sample taken from the patient is sent to the laboratory until it goes under the microscope. These procedures encompass many stages, from tissue sectioning to macroscopic examination, embedding to staining, and tissue embedding. The operations we perform here are manual procedures; the purpose of this is to give students the chance to identify and correct their mistakes, and by combining their theories with practical application, we ensure their readiness for the field upon graduation.”

In the laboratory, students have the opportunity to practically learn the procedures performed during the process from when histological and cytological samples are taken from the body until a diagnosis is made.

The laboratory includes sections such as a macroscopy room, tissue embedding area, a tissue sectioning department where the microtome is located, histological and cytological staining area, and a microscope room. Students who receive training in these areas prepare for their professional lives fully equipped thanks to their laboratory experiences.

A strong future with practical education…

With the three new laboratories opened at Üsküdar University, students are offered a modern educational environment where they can put their theoretical knowledge into practice and enhance their professional competencies.

The laboratories are considered an important step towards training future healthcare professionals and bringing equipped individuals to the sector.

These innovative educational opportunities continue to provide a significant advantage in students' career journeys.
