Founding Rector of Uskudar University, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan attended the “Provincial Coordination Board for the Fight Against Addiction” Meeting, held under the chairmanship of Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya. At the meeting where the 2022 activities regarding the fight against addiction were discussed, following Governor Yerlikaya's opening speech; Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan also made a presentation.
“Addiction Struggle Meeting Held with High Participation”
According to the statement made by the Istanbul Governorship, the meeting held at the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate's Hasdal Campus under the chairmanship of Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya was attended by Deputy Governor Niyazi Erten, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General Yusuf Kenan Topçu, Provincial Police Chief Zafer Aktaş, Founding Rector of Uskudar University - Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, rectors and vice-rectors of other universities, Provincial Health Director Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu, provincial directors, and representatives of relevant institutions.
Governor Yerlikaya: “Our Biggest Goal is to Reduce Drug Use to Zero, to Set an Example for the World”
Speaking at the meeting where the 2022 activities regarding the fight against addiction were discussed, Governor Yerlikaya stated that they aim to set an example for the whole world in the fight against addiction. Yerlikaya said, “Like many other issues, drug and substance addiction is now transforming all over the world. The increasing number and variety of addictive substances, and easier access to them, require more measures in the fight against substance use and addiction. We, along with the rest of the world, are facing these problems. Our greatest goal is to reduce drug use to zero and to set an example for the whole world in the fight against addiction.”
Governor Yerlikaya: “The Fight Against Addiction is a Patriotic Duty”
Governor Yerlikaya stated that the fight against addiction has red lines and underlined that it is a patriotic duty. Yerlikaya said; “The fight against addiction; in the words of our President, 'is a patriotic duty.' All kinds of stimulants and narcotic substances are our red line. I believe with all my heart that thanks to our Addiction Struggle Coordination Board, which we established to protect society from this threat; the coordination of our stakeholders working on addiction struggle in our province will further increase, and they will achieve their activities and goals more quickly.”
“Prof. Dr. Tarhan Made a Presentation on the Fight Against Addiction”
Following Governor Yerlikaya’s opening speech at the meeting; Founding Rector of Uskudar University Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, along with the Istanbul Provincial Police Department's Narcotics Crimes Branch Directorate, and the Provincial Health Directorate's Tobacco and Substance Addiction Struggle Unit, made presentations.
The meeting, where Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General Topçu, Provincial Police Chief Aktaş, and Provincial Health Director Prof. Dr. Memişoğlu made their evaluation presentations, concluded after consultation.
