Departments centered on humanity and society, from Philosophy to Psychology, Sociology to International Relations, are being reshaped by the new dynamics of the digital age. Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHS) attracts candidates' attention with its education model that leads this transformation.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Gümüş Demir, Vice Dean, stated that the fundamental difference of their faculty is combining classical social sciences education with digital literacy, analytical thinking, and practical learning opportunities, saying, “We don't just teach lessons. We prepare our students for life. We teach them to question, to understand, to think differently, to look with a critical eye, and we do this not only with books but by combining the opportunities offered by the digital world with social sciences.”

Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Gümüş Demir, Vice Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHS), addressing candidates who aim for a career in social sciences during the university preference period, provided information about the faculty.
“We don't just teach lessons!”

Responding to the question of why a prospective student should choose Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Gümüş Demir said, “We don't just teach lessons. We prepare our students for life. We teach them to question, to understand, to think differently, to look with a critical eye, and we do this not only with books but by combining the opportunities offered by the digital world with social sciences. Our faculty aims for students not only to acquire knowledge but also to analyze, evaluate, and use this knowledge in creative ways. We provide our students with broad perspectives through case analyses, discussion-based courses, and project-based learning methods to develop their analytical thinking skills. Additionally, digital literacy is structured as a fundamental acquisition in every program, as required by the age.”

Tomorrow is designed together with an interdisciplinary perspective

Expressing that they value understanding today and designing tomorrow together with an interdisciplinary perspective, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Gümüş Demir said, “Learning in our faculty is not limited to four walls; classrooms also transform into a learning space where knowledge is always accessible. Our graduates, equipped with the requirements of the age, find their place in brand new fields of work. Because we know that social sciences are no longer just an academic area of interest but have become a powerful field at the center of the digital world. Every department within our faculty is structured to offer both theoretical depth and practical learning opportunities. For example, experimental methods are applied in the laboratory environment in the Psychology Department, while the Sociology Department is supported by field research and digital data collection tools. In the Political Science and International Relations Program, simulations and diplomacy workshops are held, and in the Philosophy Department, discussion workshops on contemporary philosophical problems take place. English Translation and Interpreting students prepare for professional life by working in translation technology laboratories.”

A strong bond is established with students

Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Gümüş Demir also noted that the faculty establishes a strong bond with its students, stating, “We accompany our students in both their academic and personal development with our academic advising system, scholarship opportunities, project supports, and achievement incentives. Sometimes in a research project, sometimes in student clubs, and sometimes in campus corridors, we continue to think, produce, and learn together with our students. As the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, we do not just want to graduate students. We want to raise individuals who will contribute to the future, understand society, and have the courage to transform it. Because we believe that without understanding humanity, it is not possible to change the world. And this change begins right here, at Üsküdar University.”
