Üsküdar University is hosting a life-saving Earthquake Early Warning System (DEUS) that aims to minimize loss of life and property in possible earthquakes. Developed with the fact that Türkiye lies on an earthquake belt in mind, this system has been installed in the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Laboratory of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Üsküdar University, marking an important step towards disaster awareness. Academics and industry representatives came together to examine the system. Also notable is that Asst. Prof. Rüştü Uçan, Head of the OHS Department at Üsküdar University, was part of the system’s installation and R&D commission.

The system, donated by the company MULTİTEK, was meticulously installed in the laboratory by the company’s technical team. The high-technology system works by processing critical earthquake signals received from the firm EDİS Afet ve Deprem Sistemleri.
The Earthquake Early Warning System (DEUS) has been installed in the OHS Laboratory on the Çarşı Campus of Üsküdar University.

Academia and industry representatives also reviewed the system
The academic staff at Üsküdar University played an active role in the development and implementation of the technology. As noted, Asst. Prof. Rüştü Uçan was part of the installation and R&D team.

Prof. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin also visited
After the installation, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Ertekin, visited the system on-site to receive detailed information about how it works.
The system was also introduced in detail at a symposium
This major technology was presented to a professional audience at a symposium held on 11 October, organised in partnership with İSGDER at Üsküdar University. Participants included Ministry of Labour and Social Security Expert Inspector Alpay Bulut and members of İSGDER, who reviewed the system together with Asst. Prof. Uçan.
The system installed in the OHS Laboratory at Üsküdar University will both allow students to receive hands-on training in emergency management and serve academic research on earthquake safety by demonstrating how critical early warning is.
Racing against seconds…
This advanced Earthquake Early Warning System detects the non-destructive P-wave and gives a critical warning seconds before the destructive S-wave arrives. During these golden seconds the system automatically activates a series of vital safety protocols:
- Emergency response: It instantly cuts off critical infrastructure systems such as gas, water and electricity.
- Evacuation safety: Elevators are sent to the nearest safe floor; their doors open and automatic door lock-downs are prevented to secure evacuation routes.
- Alert systems: Audible and visual alarms are triggered to inform those inside the building about the imminent earthquake
Currently used by large-scale companies and industrial facilities, work continues to expand the technology’s use into residences and ordinary buildings.
