Tarhan Responded to HZI Foundation Allegations Live!
During the live broadcast, where many topics such as family, increasing divorces, addiction, and bad world syndrome were discussed, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan responded to journalist Balçiçek İlter's allegations regarding the Hamide Zekeriya İtil (HZİ) Foundation.
Tarhan: “There is mind-reading here”
In response to İlter's question, “Professor, did you ever work there, where is this coming from?” Tarhan said;
“No, I never worked there. There is mind-reading here. I had no involvement with the foundation. As alleged, I did not assist Ayhan Songar or Turan Itil. Itil is an internationally recognized name for his work in electrophysiology and his studies examining the electrical activity of the nervous system. He is actually a very valuable person. Someone with awards, a successful person…”
Tarhan: “A connection is being made because I have a military physician background…”
In response to journalist İlter's question, “As far as I know, you were never part of that group. Were you ever offered to join?” Tarhan said;
“That research was during the September 12th period. I was an assistant in Ankara. I was still a resident. I didn't even hear about it… I heard about it from the press later. I think a connection is being made because I have a military physician background. Details about the project, the real project, should be in the General Staff archives… If the General Staff made a statement, the matter would be over.”
Balçiçek İlter: “Do you know Ayhan Songar, how do you evaluate the research conducted?”
Tarhan; “Of course, I know him. He was our professor when we were at Cerrahpaşa. But as I was a civilian doctor, I never worked with him.”
In response to İlter’s question of whether the studies conducted at that time were scientific, Tarhan said;
“At that time, conducting research in prisons and the military was not against scientific ethics; now it is. But it might have been done with permission, I don't know. There were no ethics committees back then. I know from my time at GATA that there were no ethics committees at all then. Ethics committees emerged later, in line with the ethics committees in the USA.”
Tarhan: “They are looking for a scapegoat…”
İlter, “So, something was done...”
Tarhan, “I strongly presume that something was done. But there is no published information, no presentation at a conference. And no statement from the General Staff. So, the General Staff needs to clarify whether something like this happened or did not happen at that time. As long as they don't say anything, the issue always remains vague. This time, they are always looking for a scapegoat.”
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan had answered journalist Gökçer Tahincioğlu’s questions on the matter, and Tahincioğlu had published Tarhan’s answers in his column. Here are Tarhan’s answers on the subject:
