Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, was a live broadcast guest on Türkiye’nin Sesi Radio. Evaluating the 'Families at University' project, for which a cooperation protocol was signed with the Istanbul Governorship, Tarhan stated that they aim to create a conscious individual, healthy family, strong society model with the project. Tarhan emphasized that there is 'freedom poisoning' in the world, which harms the family, and warned that a generation is emerging that perceives autonomy as irresponsibility.
'Freedom poisoning harms the family'
Tarhan, who was a guest on the 'Leylak Kokusu' (Scent of Lilac) program presented by Yasemin Pamukçu, emphasized that the widespread understanding of freedom in society harms the family institution and that work needs to be done on this issue. Evaluating the 'Families at University' Project, implemented by Üsküdar Üniversitesi and its implementation partner NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital, Tarhan said; “Just as bricks form a building, and cells form our body, the family forms the building block of society. If the family, which forms the building block of society, is not happy, healthy and happy individuals do not grow up, and happy relationships do not emerge. Currently, 'freedom poisoning' is being experienced all over the world. This poisoning has caused us to lose the balance between freedom and responsibility. A generation is coming that perceives autonomy as irresponsibility. Freedom poisoning has started to harm the family institution. As a result, the divorce rate has also increased. Divorces have increased 6-fold in the last five years. We cannot predict what will happen in the future regarding this issue. Everyone needs to work on this issue and take responsibility. As Üsküdar Üniversitesi, we have implemented the 'Families at University' social responsibility project.”
'We aim to strengthen the family with positive psychotherapy'
Providing information about the 'Families at University' social responsibility project, Tarhan said; “With the 'Families at University' project, it is aimed to create a 'Conscious Individual, Healthy Family, Strong Society' model, based on scientific studies and encompassing protective and preventive activities. While realizing this project, we placed positive psychology at our core. With positive psychotherapy, we aim to strengthen the family without causing wounds or delving into childhood traumas. We aim to teach positive life strategies against negative life strategies. Currently, we have signed protocols with the District Governorships of Pendik, Üsküdar, Eyüp, and Gaziosmanpaşa in Istanbul.” he stated.
'Training is provided to four different groups in the project'
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that training is given to 4 different groups in the project; “There are red, white, pink, and orange groups in the project. We can define families in the red group as those who have not received expert help for conflicts experienced within them but where there is always tension at home. The pink group consists of individuals over 18 and couples preparing for marriage, while the white group includes young people under 18 who are informed about marriage-related issues. In the orange group, couples who have not yet experienced problems but are at risk are grouped. Only one of the groups has treatment, while the other three have protective and preventive treatment.” he explained.
