Evaluating the November mid-term break for students preparing for university exams, Exp. Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan said, “Planning should be done by preparing a weekly study program specifically for the mid-term break. We should practice by solving at least 200 questions daily.” Akoğlan, who suggested taking at least 3 practice exams during the mid-term break, added, “Spending the entire day studying is also not correct. Students should also include activities during this period where they can rest and feel comfortable.”

Özgür Akoğlan, Expert Psychological Counselor and Manager of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Educational Institutions and Guidance Services, evaluated the mid-term break for students preparing for university exams, which will start on Monday, November 11, and end on Friday, November 15.

A weekly study program specifically for the mid-term break should be prepared!

Özgür Akoğlan, Manager of Guidance Services, wished all students a productive mid-term break where they spend quality time with their families and complete their deficiencies, stating, “The first mid-term break should be considered not only as a time for rest but also as an opportunity where every moment should be utilized productively. This period is especially valuable for students preparing for university exams. Before entering the mid-term break, we should review the work we've done since the beginning of the semester, identify our deficiencies, and with support from school guidance counselors, prepare a weekly study program specifically for the mid-term break. This way, we will have the opportunity to review previously learned topics and complete areas we didn't understand.”

The mid-term break opportunity should be utilized to complete deficiencies…

Özgür Akoğlan, Manager of Guidance Services, stated that if students have deficiencies in TYT topics in line with their university goals, they should see this mid-term break as an opportunity to address them, saying, “Immediately after studying a topic, we should practice by solving at least 200 questions daily. We should learn how to solve the questions we couldn't do from our course instructors or from solved resources. If we are not attending a course, we can utilize the Ministry of National Education's digital supplementary resources for topic repetitions and question solutions.”

Take at least 3 practice exams during the mid-term break!

Exp. Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan, who also recommended taking at least 3 practice exams during the mid-term break, said, “Since universities will be open during this period, we can experience a real exam atmosphere by using the halls of the nearest universities. Our aim is to see how we can transfer what we've learned to questions and to increase our question-solving speed; because preparing for exams is important both theoretically and in terms of time management.”

Sleep patterns should not be disrupted

Özgür Akoğlan also noted that care should be taken to maintain regular sleep and not disrupt night sleeping habits during the November mid-term break, explaining the following:

“Good and quality sleep is very beneficial for vitality. Physical activity is also necessary to stay vital. Taking a walk for at least half an hour in the afternoons, going outdoors, or engaging in activities like sports will be very beneficial. We recommend being careful not to spend long periods in front of a computer, whether for chatting or playing games. Remember that sitting in front of a screen for long periods can lead to physical and mental fatigue, as well as spine and joint problems.”

Studying all day is not correct!

Exp. Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan, Manager of Guidance Services, also pointed out that students should engage in activities during the mid-term break that allow them to rest, relax, and facilitate their focus, concluding his words by saying, “Thus, when school resumes, they will not have difficulty studying. Furthermore, thanks to attention-enhancing activities, students at all levels will experience less difficulty focusing on their lessons and studying. However, spending the entire day studying is also not correct. Students should also include activities during this period where they can rest and feel comfortable.”
