Üsküdar University Department of Health, Culture and Sports International Student Relations Office teams ISSTeam and TFTeam, in cooperation with the Intercultural Club, organized the “Syria Coffee Break” event. As part of the traditional Coffee Break gatherings held weekly to introduce different cultures and strengthen students’ social integration, Syrian students joyfully celebrated the first anniversary of their independence.

The event, held with strong participation at the Üsküdar University Health Campus Event Area, marked Syria’s independence within a cultural framework and a vibrant atmosphere.

During the event, participants were offered traditional Syrian coffee and beverages, along with regional dishes and desserts. The program was enriched with visual backgrounds, traditional clothing, and cultural presentations.
Students added color to the event with traditional Syrian melodies and folk dances.

Poetry added emotional depth to the event
The event gained emotional depth through poems recited by Mohammad Kalaa Dzhi, the father of Intercultural Club President Khamza Kalaa Dzhi. As a poet and writer, Dzhi shared literary works that resonated strongly with the audience. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Pharmacy in 1972 and is a pharmacist as well as the author of five published literary books.

Emphasis on unity and solidarity for Syria’s independence
During the event, Sadık Paksoy, Head of the Department of Health, Culture and Sports, delivered a speech emphasizing unity and solidarity in relation to Syria’s independence.
At the same time, Asst. Prof. Gülcan Ayral, Manager of the International Student Relations Office, along with Tasnim Saka Laik, Coordinator of the Buddy Program, Sinem Bayram, Coordinator of Events, Research and Projects, members of the Intercultural Club Executive Board, and the ISS and TF teams, supported Syrian students throughout all stages of the event, including the preparation process.
Held in a festive and celebratory atmosphere, the Syria Coffee Break was successfully completed as a meaningful event that strengthened cultural sharing, encouraged interaction among students, and contributed to the university’s multicultural campus environment.
