Sufism and Music Education Concluded with a Concert Featuring the 'Hüzzam Mevlevi Ayin'

The 'Sufism and Music Education Program,' organized by the Üsküdar University Institute for Sufism Studies, concluded with a concert held at the end of the term. While the knowledge and experience gained during the eight-week training period were brought to the stage, the most distinguished works of Sufi music were performed by artists and participants. The concert, where art and spirituality intertwined, offered listeners a profound and impressive experience.

Guests showed great interest in the program, which was held with a concert given by the İstanbul Türk Ocağı Ömürlü Musiki Topluluğu under the direction of Conductor Elif Ömürlü Uyar at the South Campus Fuat Sezgin Conference Hall.

Prof. Elif Erhan: “These programs have become a tradition”

Prof. Elif Erhan, Director of the Institute for Sufism Studies, who made the opening speech of the program, stated that it is a tradition for education programs to be crowned with a concert at the end of each term. Erhan said; “This time, as a university, we had the honor of hosting the İstanbul Türk Ocağı Ömürlü Musiki Topluluğu. We will all enjoy listening to this valuable concert under the direction of our esteemed instructors Prof. V. Emre Ömürlü and Elif Ömürlü Uyar. Welcome, we are delighted to have you.” she concluded.

Elif Ömürlü Uyar: “A masterpiece of our music: the Hüzzam Mevlevi Ayin”

Conductor Elif Ömürlü Uyar, who leads the education program, emphasized that they focused on one of the greatest forms of music in this term's program. Uyar stated that the 8-week education period was very productive; “In this program, together with our choir, we wanted to perform Dede Efendi’s Hüzzam Mevlevi Ayin, which is considered a masterpiece of our music. As you know, all our great composers emerged from Mevlevîhanes and dervish lodges. The Mevlevi Ayin is the highest form of our music. Here, we will try to present this beautiful form as a music lesson.” she said.

The concert began with the Naat-ı Şerif performed by Prof. V. Emre Ömürlü. The program, which continued with prayers after the Peşrev and salutations, offered the audience emotional moments. The concert, accompanied by Vasfi Emre Ömürlü on kudüm, Hüseyin Özkılıç on ney, Gül Güldaş Küçükşahin on kanun, Abdullah Efe on tanbur, Osman Nergis on classical kemençe, Kadir Oruç on oud, and Meltem Çorukoğlu on bendir, concluded with great appreciation and applause from the audience.

The program is organized for 8 weeks during autumn and spring semesters

The 'Sufism and Music Education' program, conducted by vocalist and Conductor Elif Ömürlü Uyar, is organized for 8 weeks during the Fall and Spring semesters each year at the Institute for Sufism Studies. The program, which has awarded one hundred seventy-two participation certificates to date, also forms the basis for events organized throughout the year in the field of Sufi music.
