Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Molecular Biology and Genetics department students won a gold medal by reaching the finals in the Rare Disease Challenge Rare Diseases Genetic Therapy Project Competition 2021, where 39 different teams competed to carry out genetic therapy and social awareness projects for three different target diseases.

What is Rare Disease Challenge (Rare Diseases Genetic Therapy Project Competition)?
A nationwide and inter-university competition in Turkey, aiming to raise awareness for individuals with rare diseases within our society, to make their voices heard by those who will listen, and to create an infrastructure for 'Rare Diseases' by generating diverse treatment-oriented projects from different minds.

Five students from Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Molecular Biology and Genetics department, came together in March and formed a team named 'Resesif16'. With months of work, they developed a genetic therapy project and social awareness studies for 'Familial Mediterranean Fever' disease, which is common in Turkey, and presented their work to the jury via live broadcast in October. In this way, they reached the finals of Rare Disease Challenge 2021 and won a gold medal.
The project team continues its work for the experimental phases of the project.
