The Orthopedic Prosthetics and Orthotics Program of Üsküdar University's Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO) organized an event titled “Lower Extremity Ready-Made Orthosis Products.” Orthotist Prosthetist Selçuk Sunar attended the event. Sunar shared his industry experiences with the students. During the event, students had the opportunity to experience the products firsthand.

The event took place at Üsküdar University's Çarşı Campus.

The event was attended by Head of the Orthopedic Prosthetics and Orthotics Program at Üsküdar University's Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO), Lecturer Kübra Akkalay, Orthotist Prosthetist Selçuk Sunar, academics, and students.

Orthotist Prosthetist Selçuk Sunar: “Using shoes larger than one's foot size creates problems in foot structure”

Orthotist Prosthetist Selçuk Sunar stated that attention should be paid to the softness of silicone products. Sunar said; “The products should be soft because they are worn with shoes and act as a buffer between the skin and the shoe. In children, the use of insoles is not very long-lasting; as they grow continuously, insoles need to be replaced regularly. Furthermore, using shoes larger than one's foot size creates problems in foot structure.”

“We focus on preventing the progression of the disease by preserving the current condition”

Selçuk Sunar, addressing foot problems experienced in old age, said, “The tissues under the feet of individuals aged 70 and above suffer significant fluid loss. When touched, the skin collapses at the point where the finger presses and cannot return to its original form. Bones become prominent and weakened. In such cases, we focus on preventing the progression of the disease by preserving the current condition. We adopt this approach in all our products and act in line with this expectation.”

Sunar, giving examples from his experiences, stated that they can sometimes witness a patient's first attempt to stand up.

Students gained the opportunity to experience orthosis products firsthand and had the chance to obtain detailed information about each product.

Afterward, Head of the Orthopedic Prosthetics and Orthotics Program, Lecturer Kübra Akkalay, presented a certificate of appreciation to Orthotist Prosthetist Selçuk Sunar, and the event concluded after a group photo session.
