In cooperation with the Department of Child Development at Üsküdar University’s Faculty of Health Sciences and the Zeytinburnu Municipality City Council Disabled Assembly, the pilot project “Equal Steps,” aimed at raising awareness for individuals with special needs, was successfully implemented. As part of the project, an educational program targeting 5th-grade students was carried out with the goal of fostering positive attitudes toward individuals with special needs.

Specially prepared storybooks were distributed to students at the selected pilot school. Through these books, the aim was for children to learn about different types of disabilities, develop empathy, and become more sensitive individuals toward those with special needs.

Awareness was raised about special needs
Volunteers from Üsküdar University Department of Child Development formed a core team and carried out the project activities at Şemsettin Sami Middle School, the selected pilot school. Through these activities, students learned while having fun and gained awareness about special needs.

The impact of the project was also evaluated scientifically
In addition, to measure the effectiveness of the program, a pre-test and post-test method was applied before and after the implementation. Based on the data collected, the impact of the project was also evaluated scientifically.
