An international conference titled “Sociology and Applied Psychology in the Modern World” was held in Uzbekistan by Ali-Shir Nava'i Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature. Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, a faculty member of Üsküdar University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Sociology, participated online in the conference. Süleymanlı delivered a presentation titled “Baykan Sezer’s Understanding of Sociology in the Context of the Differences Between East-West Societies.”

The conference, where important topics of sociology and applied psychology were discussed, attracted significant interest.

The Indigenous Sociology movement was discussed

Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, drawing attention to Baykan Sezer being one of the important figures of the “Indigenous Sociology” movement in Turkey, stated: “Sezer has always advocated that Turkey and other Eastern societies should create their own sociologies. Stating that the sociology constructed by the West in line with its own interests does not suit the social realities of Eastern societies, Sezer coined the term 'indigenous sociology.' This makes Baykan Sezer one of the pioneering figures of indigenous sociology in Turkish sociological history and among the representatives of the Istanbul sociology school,” he said.

East-West relations were also discussed

Süleymanlı stated that the East-West relationship, which has historically occurred in a dichotomous manner, actually contains traces of a symbiotic relationship, and he noted that Baykan Sezer consistently emphasized “that for the East to be well-analyzed, issues should be addressed within the axis of East-West relations and conflict.”

At the end of his presentation, Süleymanlı introduced the titles of Baykan Sezer’s works to the conference participants.
