Social Work Program students continue field visits

Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (VSHS) Social Work Program and the "Break the Silence Club" visited the Sancaktepe Violence Prevention and Monitoring Center (ŞÖNİM) Directorate and the Sancaktepe Social Service Center, both affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Services. The visit focused on addressing violence within social work practices. Additionally, the role of social service centers in community-based service delivery was examined.

The visit was hosted by Mehtap Akbulut Gökgöz, Director of the Sancaktepe Violence Prevention and Monitoring Center (ŞÖNİM).

Dr. Melek Çaylak, Head of the Social Work Program at Üsküdar University VSHS, spoke about the benefits of the event for students. Çaylak stated that “These kinds of activities are extremely valuable for increasing students’ professional awareness. Through these events, they gain a realistic perspective on the field. ŞÖNİM Director Mehtap Akbulut Gökgöz emphasized the value of students’ motivation and sensitivity in this field.

Combating violence in social work practices was addressed

As part of the visit, experts working at ŞÖNİM gave presentations to the students. The presentations provided comprehensive information on efforts to prevent violence and intervention processes, case management, risk assessment procedures, and the social work practices offered at the center.

Students received detailed information about the work carried out by ŞÖNİM and had the opportunity to directly observe service models implemented in the field of combating violence.

Social Service Center was also visited

Following the visit to ŞÖNİM, the students visited the Sancaktepe Social Service Center. During the visit, different departments of the center were introduced to the students. They obtained detailed information about the services provided by each unit. They also had the opportunity to closely observe the role of social service centers in community-based service delivery.

Similar initiatives will continue in the future

At the end of the event, students expressed that the visit contributed to both their academic and personal development and stated their wish for similar activities to continue in the future.
