Social Services Program Students Continue Field Inspections

Üsküdar University Health Services Vocational School (SHMYO) Social Services Program and the Break the Silence Club visited the Sancaktepe Violence Prevention and Monitoring Center (ŞÖNİM) Directorate, affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Services, and the Sancaktepe Social Services Center. Within the scope of the visit, combating violence in social service practices was discussed. Additionally, the role of social service centers in providing community-based services was examined. 

The visit was hosted by Mehtap Akbulut Gökgöz, Director of the Sancaktepe Violence Prevention and Monitoring Center (ŞÖNİM).

Asst. Prof. Dr. Melek Çaylak: "Such activities are very valuable"

Asst. Prof. Dr. Melek Çaylak, Head of the Social Services Program at Üsküdar University SHMYO, spoke about the benefits of the event for students. Çaylak stated, "Such activities are very valuable for increasing students' professional awareness. With these activities, they gain a realistic perspective on the field. This is extremely valuable for professional development..."

ŞÖNİM Director Mehtap Akbulut Gökgöz stated that students' motivation and sensitivity in this field are very valuable. 

Combating violence in social service practices was discussed

During the visit, experts working within ŞÖNİM gave a presentation to the students. The presentation provided comprehensive information on the efforts carried out regarding violence prevention and intervention processes, case management, risk assessment processes, and social service practices offered at the center.

Students received detailed information about ŞÖNİM's work and had the opportunity to observe the service models implemented in the field of combating violence on-site. 

Social Services Center also visited

Following the ŞÖNİM visit, the Sancaktepe Social Services Center was visited. During the visit, different units of the center were introduced to the students. Students gained detailed information about the services provided by each unit. They also had the opportunity to closely observe the role of social service centers in providing community-based services. 

Similar studies will continue in the future 

At the end of the event, students expressed that the visit contributed to both their academic and human development, and stated their wish for similar activities to continue in the future.
