TÜBİTAK Support for 12 Student Projects Advised by VSHS Academicians

Twelve student research projects prepared under the advisorship of Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (VSHS) academicians qualified for support from TÜBİTAK. Four projects were accepted under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program, and eight projects were accepted under the TÜBİTAK 2209-B University Students Industry-Oriented Research Projects Support Program. These projects, in the fields of health, biotechnology, environment, chemistry, and natural products, will support students' active participation in research processes and university-industry collaboration.

Twelve student research projects prepared under the advisorship of Üsküdar University VSHS academicians qualified for support from TÜBİTAK. These projects, developed by students under the guidance of academicians, will contribute to conducting scientific research in various disciplines while also enabling students to gain project development and research experience.

Asst. Prof. Ömer Faruk Karasakal: 'Active participation of students in research processes is important'

VSHS Director Asst. Prof. Ömer Faruk Karasakal stated that projects carried out under the advisorship of academicians contribute to the development of a scientific production culture. Karasakal said, 'Active participation of students in research processes is of great importance.'

Four projects supported under TÜBİTAK 2209-A

Four student projects qualified for support under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program.

-The project titled 'Determination of the Antimicrobial Effect of Selected Essential Oils Against Streptococcus pyogenes,' conducted by Ümran Altunbaş under the advisorship of Instructor Tuğçe Soylamış from the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program, received TÜBİTAK support.

-The project titled 'Investigation of the Effect of the Digital World on Pes Planus in Children and the Efficacy of Orthopedic Insoles-Exercise Applications,' conducted by Cihan Demir under the advisorship of Physiotherapy Program Head Asst. Prof. Esra Ergun Keşli, was also among the supported studies.

-The project titled 'Design and Prototyping of Ergonomic, Single-Use/Sterilizable Dental Protective Equipment to Prevent Dental Trauma During Intubation,' prepared by Zelha Buse Yavaş under the advisorship of Instructor Abdurrahman Şengül from the Anesthesia Program, also qualified for TÜBİTAK support.

-The project titled 'Investigation of the Effect of Shoe Selection on Foot Health,' conducted by Muhammed Emin Karakuş under the advisorship of Orthopedic Prosthesis and Orthosis Program Head Instructor Kübra Akkalay, was also among the projects supported under 2209-A.

Eight projects to be carried out with university-industry collaboration

Eight projects accepted under the TÜBİTAK 2209-B University Students Industry-Oriented Research Projects Support Program will be carried out in collaboration with university and industry.

-The project titled 'Determination of Antioxidant Capacities and Phenolic Component Profile by LC-MS/MS of Extracts Obtained from Different Fractions of Aronia melanocarpa (Black Chokeberry) Fruit,' conducted by Hatice Çizer under the advisorship of Food Technology Program Head Asst. Prof. Selen Akbulut, qualified for support. In this project, Food Technology Program Asst. Prof. Salih Tuncay will serve as an industry consultant.

-The project titled 'Design, Synthesis, and Investigation of Antimicrobial Activities of Novel Paraben-sulfonylhydrazide Derivatives,' conducted under the advisorship of Asst. Prof. Hatice Nur Halipçi Topsakal, was also among the supported studies.

-The project titled 'Investigation of Paracetamol, 4-Aminophenol, and Aniline Removal from Water Using Metal-Organic Framework (MOF): Experimental Approach with Box-Behnken,' conducted under the advisorship of Research Asst. Gülsüm Özçelik, was also accepted under TÜBİTAK 2209-B.

-The project titled 'Synthesis of Natural Product-Derived 1,2,3-Triazole-Vanillin Hybrid Hydrazones,' conducted under the advisorship of Assoc. Prof. Halil Şenol, was also among the projects that qualified for support.

In these three projects, Asst. Prof. Salih Tuncay will undertake the role of industry consultant.

Four projects focus on natural product research

Four projects, to be carried out under the advisorship of Asst. Prof. Öznur Eyilcim, focus on investigating the contents, extraction methods, and antioxidant properties of natural products.

The supported projects are as follows:

•    'Preparation of Extracts of Walnut Membrane (Diaphragma juglandis) Growing in Bursa Province by Traditional and Ultrasonic Extraction Methods, Determination of Catechin Content by HPLC, and Comparison of Results'

•    'Preparation of Extracts of Naturally Growing Rumex acetosella L. (Sheep Sorrel) Plant in Silivri by Supercritical Carbon Dioxide and Traditional Methods, Determination of Quercetin Content, Comparison of Results, and Investigation of Antioxidant Capacity with CUPRAC Method',

•    'Preparation of Extracts from Bilberry (Vaccinium arctostaphylos L.) Pulp Growing in Trabzon Province by Supercritical CO₂ Method, Determination of Malvidin-3-O-Glucoside Content, and Comparison of Results with Traditional Extraction Method'

•    'Determination of Glycyrrhizin Content from Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) Root Growing in Adana Province by Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Method and Comparison of Results with Traditional Method'

Students take an active role in research processes

Projects receiving TÜBİTAK support will contribute to conducting scientific studies in various research areas such as health, biotechnology, environment, chemistry, and natural products. Thanks to projects developed under the advisorship of academicians, students will gain experience in different stages of scientific production, from the development of a research idea to the project execution process.

The fact that projects supported under 2209-B will be carried out through university-industry collaboration will also enable students to integrate their academic research with practical applications and sector needs.

Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services continues its efforts that foster students' research culture, support their project development competencies, and bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application.
