‘School-Age Hearing Screening’ Protocol Signed for Early Diagnosis and Treatment…

A “School-Age Hearing Screening” protocol signing ceremony was held in cooperation with Üsküdar Üniversitesi, Üsküdar District Governorship, and the District Health Directorate. With the protocol, school-age hearing screenings will be carried out, aiming for early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, emphasizing the importance of preventive health, stated that the main health service is not about preventing illness but about protecting health.

The cooperation protocol, held at the Senate Hall of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Central Campus, was attended by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, Üsküdar District Governor Adem Yazıcı, Üsküdar District Health Director Yusuf Taşçı, Head of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences, Audiology Department Dr. Didem Şahin Ceylan, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Secretary General Selçuk Uysaler, and Üsküdar Üniversitesi Head of Corporate Communications Tahsin Aksu.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “The main health service is about protecting health”

Within the scope of the protocol signing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan emphasized the importance of early diagnosis in disease, stating; “Our esteemed minister has a good point regarding the treatment of a disease. They ask, ‘You are a minister now, what would you prioritize?’ And he replies, ‘I want the protection of health.’ Physicians should also want this; doctors are only focused on a treatment and only do that. The real health service is not about preventing illness but about protecting health. This has 3 stages. Treatment service is considered the first protection. The second is the risk group, which we can also call early diagnosis, and this is very valuable. The third stage consists of efforts made to prevent recurrence after a person falls ill. I have also included these in my own books.”

Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör: “It will pave the way for scientific and new developments concerning the future…”

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör stated that the cooperation between the District Governorship and Üsküdar Üniversitesi is promising for the future, saying; “Universities are important by virtue of the knowledge produced here. Thus, we will also receive contributions from society. In fact, it is important that by transforming societal data into scientific projects, it will pave the way for scientific and new developments concerning the future. Your support is very important. The support of our District Health Directorate in this matter will also be very significant. The District Governor is always with us. It’s good that you are here. Let’s continue to work together on different projects in the future.”

Adem Yazıcı: “Üsküdar Üniversitesi is an important brand value of our district”

Üsküdar District Governor Adem Yazıcı, speaking about the importance and necessity of the protocol, stated that Üsküdar Üniversitesi is an important institution for them. Yazıcı said; “Üsküdar Üniversitesi is one of the important educational institutions in our district. It is also an important brand value for our district. As in the past, from time to time, we sign cooperation protocols with Üsküdar Üniversitesi and our affiliated public institutions, especially our National Education organization and Health organization. Today, we are here again for a cooperation protocol in the field of health. There are many educational institutions in our district, and students, who are our future, are present in these institutions. I find this project very valuable and meaningful. We will all see the benefits of early detection and diagnosis.”

Dr. Didem Şahin Ceylan: “As the Audiology department, we provide support in hearing screenings”

Dr. Didem Şahin Ceylan, Head of the Audiology Department, Faculty of Health Sciences, emphasized that the support provided by Üsküdar Üniversitesi is even more important because such comprehensive work had not been done before; “As the Audiology department, we provide support to our students in hearing screenings. We continued our support this year as well. This time, we discussed with Yusuf Taşçı whether we could combine this support with a scientific protocol. Thankfully, he was very receptive to this idea because there is an issue in this area. When we look at the literature, there is no widespread evaluation regarding school-age hearing screenings.”

Tarhan gifted the book ‘Science of Happiness’

Following the protocol signing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan hosted Üsküdar District Governor Adem Yazıcı and Üsküdar District Health Director Yusuf Taşçı in his office.

Tarhan signed and gifted Yazıcı and Taşçı the book ‘Science of Happiness’, published by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Publications, of which he is one of the authors.
