"The article titled 'Development of Üsküdar Nomophobia Scale and Examination of its Psychometric Properties' has been published. The scales developed by Üsküdar Üniversitesi and their results thus make significant contributions to the literature."
The article titled "Development of Üsküdar Nomophobia Scale and Examination of its Psychometric Properties," authored by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication lecturer Assoc. Dr. Aylin Tutgun Ünal, and 20 students continuing their education in the Üsküdar Üniversitesi Psychology doctorate program, has been published in the International Psychiatry Journal named Current Research and Reviews in Psychology and Psychiatry.
The abstract of the article is as follows:
"The article 'Development of Üsküdar Nomophobia Scale and Examination of its Psychometric Properties' has been published. It was concluded that the article develops a scale and examines its psychometric properties within the scope of the validity and reliability study of the Nomophobia Scale."
The sample included in the article consisted of 925 people across Turkey. The analyses revealed that the scale is composed of three factors. The first factor was named 'Impairment in Functionality', the second factor 'Excessive Use', and the third factor 'Inability to Communicate', with the scale explaining 69.55% of the variance. Furthermore, the three-factor scale structure obtained through confirmatory factor analysis was modeled and validated. The goodness-of-fit values were found to be within an appropriate range, resulting in a 25-item, 3-factor scale (Chi-square/degrees of freedom value: 2.52; RMSEA: 0.071; NFI: 0.89; NNFI: 0.92; CFI: 0.96; GFI:0.94; AGFI: 0.84). The internal consistency coefficient of the scale was found to be 0.96. The Test-Retest reliability also showed that when the scale was administered with a 3-week interval, the results were correlated.
Thus, it was concluded that the Üsküdar Nomophobia Scale, rated on a 5-point Likert scale as 'Never', 'Rarely', 'Sometimes', 'Often', 'Always', is a valid and reliable scale that psychometrically measures the level of Nomophobia, expressed as the fear of being without a phone."
