Üsküdar Üniversitesi's Occupational Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Health Application and Research Center organized the 36th session of the '1 Topic 1 Guest' event via Zoom. In the program, hosted by Dr. Murat Can Ocaktan, a faculty member at İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi and a Class A Occupational Safety Specialist, 'Safety Culture and Human Factors' were discussed.

“Safety climate is clear and more explicit”
Ocaktan noted that for a culture to be established, it must have a philosophy, and that philosophy must have a soul structure, explaining the concepts of safety culture and safety climate with examples he provided: Dr. Murat Can Ocaktan; “In the definition of safety culture, it is the product of an organization's health and safety competence and individual and group values. In other words, safety culture is a result. The definition of safety culture is an approach used after the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. While what we call safety culture refers to normal values and attitudes that can be observed and defined, the safety climate is perceived through an internal understanding. The term safety culture has reasons that are harder to grasp and less intuitive, whereas the safety climate is clearer and more explicit.” He stated.
“Terrible societal and social wounds emerged with the Industrial Revolution”
Ocaktan, touching upon the social consequences of the Industrial Revolution, stated; “Industrial Revolutions follow each other. If we look at the 1st Industrial Revolution, it was a period that emerged in the 18th century, in the 1780s, with the use of a classic steam power source. The use of coal and steam brought locomotive power and mechanization. The widespread adoption of machines is considered a huge advantage in the speed of development. During the transition from an agrarian society to an industrial society, there was a brutal working environment, which could not continue for very long, because steps towards the industrial revolution rapidly began on the island in the United Kingdom. Mining developed rapidly. However, because information about things like how many hours people worked or age limits was not provided, terrible societal and social wounds emerged.” He recorded.
