Retired Pilot Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran: "This is an aviation accident!"

Evaluating the helicopter crash in which Iranian President Raisi lost his life, retired pilot and Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran stated, “This is an aviation accident. Flights should not be conducted with helicopters in foggy conditions.”

Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran: “Pilots are pressured with 'Take off and fly, you'll land somewhere anyway'!”

Also pointing out the importance of domestic and national defense industry production, Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran said, "The wreckage was reached thanks to TİHAs. TİHAs are very suitable and valuable for such missions."

Retired pilot and Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran from Üsküdar University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, evaluated the helicopter crash in which Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian lost their lives.

VIP helicopters never fly alone!

Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran stated that the model of the crashed helicopter was first produced in 1979 and that production of that model continued at various times thereafter, and explained that VIP helicopters never fly alone, and the Iranian President's helicopter also did not fly alone.

Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran provided information regarding VIP flights and stated the following:

“In VIP flights, there is always a helicopter for protection; if needed, and if this helicopter cannot fly immediately due to a malfunction, the President and his team transfer to another helicopter, and they continue their mission. Time is very critical here. The time of the President and VIP officials is very valuable. It is understood that there was pressure to complete the mission here.

In mountainous areas, clouds settle on the ground and act like fog…

Absolutely, helicopters do not fly in foggy weather. There is only one condition: helicopters do not fly in foggy weather. I emphasize this. This is an aviation accident. The conditions for helicopter flights in foggy weather are misunderstood. Flights with helicopters in foggy environments are not performed. This is the only condition. Because fog is on the ground, and flying without ground visibility is not possible at low altitudes. In mountainous areas, clouds settle on the ground and act like fog, and flights are not possible under these conditions. The Iranian President's helicopter was not flying alone, and the other helicopters knew everything that happened. Flights in areas where signals cannot be received are always dangerous.”

Pilots are pressured with 'Take off and fly, you'll land somewhere anyway'!

Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran, who stated that he meticulously tried to explain issues related to weather conditions, said, “When we talk about helicopters, the difference from airplanes is this: a helicopter does not need a runway to land. It does not need a large area.  However, due to the flexibility arising from this, pilots are always forced into a situation like, 'Take off and fly, you'll land somewhere anyway.' No, a helicopter cannot land everywhere. A helicopter can land in places with ground visibility. Look at past accidents. The Eşref Bitlis accident, there was an accident before that,” he said.

The importance of domestic and national defense industry production…

Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran, who pointed out that the importance of domestic and national defense industry production was better understood in this helicopter accident, and also highlighted the importance of ATAK helicopters, UAVs (İHA), and UCAVs (SİHA) produced in Turkey, said, "The wreckage was reached thanks to TİHAs. TİHAs are very suitable and valuable for such missions. UAVs, TİHAs, UCAVs are not just for combating terrorism. They had found many mountaineers when they got lost.”

Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran also gave examples from past helicopter accidents, recalling the accident in 1993 where the helicopter carrying the President crashed in the Elbistan region due to weather conditions, Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu's helicopter crashed again between Göksun and Elbistan, and the accident where Commander Osman Erbaş passed away.

Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran, stating "Helicopters do not fly, and should not fly, in places without ground visibility. Airplanes land on runways," noted that risks should not be taken, and said, "Helicopters do not land everywhere, and helicopters do not fly in foggy conditions. Helicopters fly in high conditions, in places with visibility, in places with ground visibility.”
