An understanding that protects all children
Prof. Dr. İsmail Barış emphasized that during the Republican era, there was a policy of protecting all children, regardless of religion, language, or race; “We must strive to ensure peace for people, to instill love, to foster a sense of trust, and to achieve this for all people on Earth, not to point your flag at others, not to kill others with your weapons. Killing a person under the name of war, outside of genuine oppression, is highlighted as another mass murder. Don't forget that Mustafa Kemal was your president for a period; he wrote the Nutuk. If you forget Kazım Karabekir, if you forget Fevzi Çakmak, if you forget others, things will not stay in place. We must also learn about them; they also have formidable words and magnificent practices that can be written in golden letters in our minds, in the classrooms of our schools. We are holding this conference on one of the most important days to prevent the killing of children, women, and the elderly in Palestine, who have not touched a weapon in any way. Even if they had, it would be an act of self-defense; but I make a distinction because fighting is their duty, and we are doing this on one of the most important days to prevent their killing. When there was war in this country in 1921, there was an understanding that protected not only Muslim Turkish children but all kinds of children. What a journey from then to now…” he stated.
Social services from past to present were discussed
At the conference, which addressed social service practices in Turkish history and the differences in social services from past to present, Social Work and Public Administration Specialist Turgay Çavuşoğlu spoke about Kazım Karabekir’s Gürbüzler Army, the activities of Hilal-i Ahmer, and social service efforts in present-day Turkey.
The conference concluded with a group photo.
