Red Hard Hat Excitement Experienced at Üsküdar…

Students of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Occupational Health and Safety department received their hard hats with the traditional “Red Hard Hat Ceremony.” The opening speeches of the ceremony, held at the Emir Nebi conference hall, were delivered by Dr. Öğr. Rüştü Uçan, Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, Dean of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Aktuğ Ertekin, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Dr. Öğr. Rüştü Uçan: “We ensure our students are trained with scenarios”

Dr. Öğr. Rüştü Uçan, Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences, pointed out that theoretical courses are not sufficient, and education in this field should include practical cases.

Uçan said; “As a university, besides instructors who only teach theoretical courses, we also have individuals who have worked in this field and been in holdings teach, thereby increasing students' knowledge. We ensure our students are trained with scenarios. We added this course to the undergraduate program, and we will add it to the graduate program next year. It is better understood through cases and events; theoretical lessons alone are not enough. This year, we will also add a course on traffic and safe driving. We will also have this course taught by a formulated instructor. I recommend that other universities also prioritize such studies. I also want to tell the students to improve their English skills and start working on them now so that there will be no problems in the future. We strive to develop ourselves along with our students. We consider life to stop the moment education stops.”

Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur:  “The field of occupational health and safety holds a special importance for me”

Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, Dean of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine, explained the importance of the occupational health and safety field to the students in his speech. Emphasizing the significance of this field due to his professional interest, Sur gave advice to the students, stating; “The field of Occupational Health and Safety holds a special importance for me. The reason for this is my being a public health specialist, it rises on a tripod. Public health as a main science forms the most important part of this field, which is occupational health and safety. This interest, which started due to my professional interest, suddenly turned into friendship. It is the intersection point at the heart of all preventive health services and, as far as I can comprehend, engineering studies. I mention the engineering part without overstepping my bounds. Therefore, if you limit yourselves to the three or five legal texts and five or ten specialized techniques taught to you, you will do yourselves a great disservice. You will find yourselves within branches of science where you can develop yourselves in a world that flows incredibly vigorously. Choose one of them and progress from there. A large portion of occupational diseases and work accidents remain unreported among you. I wish you to make great developments to yield beneficial results for all employees.”

Prof. Dr. Aktuğ Ertekin: “I wish for these achievements to continue productively”

Prof. Dr. Aktuğ Ertekin, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, extended his thanks to the students and instructors. Ertekin said; “I thank everyone who contributed and supported, and my instructors. I wish for these achievements to continue productively. If there is an event that grows as knowledge is shared, especially in the academic dimension of the work, I wish for it to continue with great initiatives and efforts, never overlooked.”

Dr. Ali Rıza Tiryaki also participated as a speaker to acknowledge the additional consultancy on ‘Increasing Incentive and Motivation and Award Support’ in theses written in the field of Occupational Health and Safety.

At the ceremony, graduate students also made presentations related to their completed theses. These presentations were followed with great interest by the participants.

Among the Master's Theses related to Occupational Health and Safety, Hülây Mutlu received her plaque from Dr. Kaan Karadağ on behalf of Dr. Haldun Sirer, while Onur Şahin received his from Dr. Şevket Aksoy on behalf of Dr. Engin Tonguç.

Plaques were also presented to Ayşegül Okur, Muhammet Öz, Naz Berber, Mehmet Can Sandıkçı, and Hakan Seyrekoğlu for their achievements.

The program, filled with exciting moments, ended after a group photo session.
