Rectors in their Gowns Left Carnations on İstiklal Avenue

Visits continue to Beyoğlu İstiklal Avenue, where on November 13th, a terrorist attack carried out by the PKK/YPG terrorist organization occurred, leading to the loss of 6 lives and injuries to 81 citizens. In this context, numerous rectors, including Üsküdar Üniversitesi Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zelka, protested the terrorist incident by leaving carnations.

Coordinated by Istanbul University, rectors from state and foundation universities in the city protested the incident in Taksim, arriving in their academic gowns.

Rectors, arriving at the site of the explosion with carnations in their hands, commemorated those who lost their lives by placing carnations at the scene of the incident.

During the program, which included Üsküdar Üniversitesi Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zelka, Istanbul University Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak made a statement to journalists, saying that as universities in the city, they condemned the terrorist attack.

In his ongoing speech, Ak stated, 'The resolve of our state and nation has shown that this historical aspect has become even stronger. We believe that from now on, we will carry the pride of living together even more. The Turkish nation is in a state of integrity. It offers more security for both its own citizens and our guests visiting our country.'

Following the statement, the rectors placed carnations on the platform set up for the citizens who lost their lives in the area of the explosion.
