Faster and More Effective Results with the Real Time PCR Device…

Üsküdar Üniversitesi and NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi closely follow current technologies and scientific developments in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases, especially psychiatric ones, across various general branches. In this context, with the ‘Real Time PCR’ device recently added to its structure, it can now analyze samples much faster and more effectively.

Prof. Dr. Korkut Ulucan from Üsküdar Üniversitesi Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Pharmacogenetics Specialist Tayfun Gözler made evaluations regarding the “Real Time PCR Device” purchased by the university for use in the research and treatment of diseases, and pharmacogenetic analyses.

“The Most Effective Treatment in Terms of Appropriate Drug, Dose, and Timing for the Individual”

Üsküdar Üniversitesi continues its investments in the field of health. Pharmacogenetics Specialist Tayfun Gözler stated that pharmacogenetics is a science that enables the application of pharmacology and genetics in personalized approaches and treatment, and he spoke about pharmacogenetic analysis applications. Gözler said, “By using genotyping methods, we aim to provide the most effective treatment for individuals by examining the pathways involved in drug metabolism, ensuring the right drug at the correct dose and timing. In this context, we perform procedures with Real Time PCR. With this method, we obtain much faster and more effective results.”

“Patients Respond Best to Treatment as a Result of Pharmacogenetic Analyses”

Emphasizing the importance of using pharmacogenetic analysis, Gözler stated that Üsküdar Üniversitesi has been conducting pharmacogenetic analyses since 2015 and reporting the results. Gözler said that many scientific studies have now shown that the effectiveness of drug therapy and the risk of side effects are influenced by genetic variants; “As Üsküdar Üniversitesi Medical Genetics and Molecular Diagnosis Center, we conduct pharmacogenetic analyses for inpatients and outpatients in the Psychiatry clinic, revealing their genetic profiles related to drug metabolism. Thanks to this genetic profile, physicians have the opportunity to apply personalized treatment to their patients. Patients, in turn, respond best to treatment as a result of these pharmacogenetic analyses and are protected from side effect risks to a very high degree. Our university, thanks to this laboratory, has the infrastructure to perform pharmacogenetic analyses for patients receiving treatment not only in psychiatry but also in many other branches.”

“We Aim to Develop Methods to Practically Apply Analyses”

Gözler noted that they recently started creating pharmacogenetic panels for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and autism; he emphasized that “with technology and scientific developments, they aim to develop more effective and extensive genetic panels both with their own resources (Diagnostic kit) and to develop methods that can apply their analyses more practically.”

Ulucan: “Repeatability, Accuracy, Specificity, and Cost of Results are Very Important!”

Prof. Dr. Korkut Ulucan from Üsküdar Üniversitesi Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics stated that different methodologies are used in genetic studies; he said, “New analysis methods and approaches are used every day. The latest technology, though not always, often provides great advantages to scientists. Especially the repeatability, accuracy, specificity, and cost of the results are very important. As an institution, we prioritize fast sample analysis and repeatable results, closely following current technologies while keeping costs secondary. Finally, thanks to the Real Time PCR we have incorporated into our laboratories with the facilities provided by our institution, we will obtain much faster results.”

“The Most Technologically Equipped Device of the System”

Ulucan stated that the Real Time PCR Device is the most technologically equipped device of this system; he remarked, “Compared to its previous version, it is a much more comprehensive and equipped system in terms of speed and accuracy. The fact that it is more practical and user-friendly, especially when working with multiple samples at once, indicates that many centers prefer this device.”
