Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine Head of Internal Medical Sciences Department and Advisor to the Rector Prof. Dr. Tayfun Uzbay, was a guest at the 'First Step to Online Campus' event organized by Çankırı TOBB Science High School. In his presentation titled 'Why Üsküdar Medicine?', Uzbay provided information about Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine to students and stated that they have two hospitals that medical students can utilize throughout their education.
“We also applied for English as the language of instruction”
Prof. Dr. Tayfun Uzbay stated that the opportunities for students studying at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine are quite extensive, saying, “To prefer medical faculties in the university exam, one must be in the top 50 thousand. Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine is a young faculty, established in 2018. We admitted our first students in the 2019-2020 academic year. Currently, we have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year students. Our language of instruction is currently Turkish, but we have also applied for English education. Our Faculty of Medicine is not mixed like other universities; it is solely dedicated to medical students. We have a total of 17 classrooms, including 6 laboratories, 4 amphitheaters, 10 lecture halls, and 3 problem-based learning classrooms, along with 1 conference hall and 1 library. Our academic staff is quite strong; we continue our educational activities with 34 professors, 11 associate professors, and 39 doctor lecturers. We are very ambitious about our library. You can access old and new books from our library, and with our database, you can access books from all over the world. We have also created spaces within the library for students to study independently.”
“Our Faculty is very strong in terms of equipment”
Uzbay stated that the equipment in the faculty is sufficient and almost personalized; “One of the areas we are ambitious about is our model laboratories. These models are extremely realistic. In our laboratories, 60 students can receive training simultaneously at 6 tables. We are a university rich in equipment. We have a Medical Skills Training Laboratory, and the equipment here is almost sufficient for personalized use. Our school also has a Simulated Patient Laboratory. This laboratory contains all the equipment found in any hospital emergency room. You interact one-on-one with a non-real patient, and your instructor monitors you from outside.”
“We have two hospitals for the education of medical students”
Uzbay also provided information about the education process in Medical Faculties; “When you start school, you develop your basic skills in the first three years. From the 4th year onwards, you begin clinical rotations. Our university has 2 affiliated hospitals. We have a collaboration with the 100-bed NPİSTANBUL Beyin Hastanesi and the 144-bed Ataşehir Memorial Hospital. Our students will be able to complete their intern training in these hospitals during their internships.”
