Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, was a guest on Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University’s Instagram live broadcast. Providing information on how much the coronavirus affects human life and what needs to be done, Tarhan underlined that the pandemic period is an advantage for the young generation.
“We are currently creating the apocalypse ourselves”
Tarhan stated that the coronavirus has put medicine to a serious test, saying; “Vaccine opponents are silent now. The order in nature is taking revenge on us. Humankind has massacred nature; we are currently creating the apocalypse ourselves, this is a warning bell for humanity. The Covid-19 pandemic presents opportunities and dangers for us. There is no need for pessimism. In the past, during wartime, Japan and Germany emerged from the war defeated, but after that, they worked very hard and are now able to be superpowers. We didn't even enter the war during that period but couldn't develop due to laziness. Even South Korea surpassed us during that period.”
“The pandemic is an advantage for the young generation”
Tarhan stated that he paid most attention to the differences between Turkish and Western societies during the pandemic process, saying; “Countries with poor healthcare systems suffered great losses. Turkey, on the other hand, is very successful in its healthcare system. The pandemic period is an advantage for the young generation. Older generations matured through difficulties, while new generations mature amidst abundance. For this reason, psychological crises can also occur during maturation. New generations live as if they will never die, which is not right at all. Children should be taught that the fish in the aquarium will die one day, even when they are in kindergarten. The pandemic period should be seen as a great opportunity for psychological maturation on our behalf.”
“Restrictions cause negative effects on the elderly”
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that the restrictions imposed on those over 65 years old were not correct; “No country in the world imposed such restrictions. Because these restrictions cause negative effects on the elderly and increase the rate of Alzheimer's. People should not wander outside after doing their work. No one has the right to restrict another person's freedom, or even their own freedom.”
“A freeze response should be given for the coronavirus to disappear”
Tarhan talked about the need for a 'freeze' response for the coronavirus to disappear completely; “If no one leaves their home for three weeks, the virus cannot find a host. Thus, it will disappear. Of course, this method is a choice. It is not an economically easy choice. But the virus is currently rampant. If it is blocked for three weeks, everything can be reset. In this process, those who protect themselves one way or another will continue, and those who don't, if not lucky, will perish.”
