Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, was a guest on the Instagram live broadcast titled “Women in the Spotlight”, moderated by Educator Rabia Altındaş. Prof. Dr. Tarhan emphasized that the concept of gender has become a global ideology today, stating: “As the world population increases, population reduction policies are being carried out under the guise of projects and ideologies related to sexual identities. This situation is an attempt to implement a global ideology. Global capital applies gender inequality in the world.”
“Women and men are genetically different”
Tarhan, giving examples from his book “Female Psychology” in his speech, said: “In this book, I included the thesis that male and female brains are different. I defended this thesis because the situation is also supported by scientific evidence. We can see that it arose from a necessity. Genetic codes are different from each other. Empathy is higher in women. We observe that a girl's empathy develops even as a baby and child. It has also been scientifically proven that their speaking skills are high. The situation is not like this for men. There is a lot of difference in this respect. There is no equality at these points. Women and men should be equal before rights, law, and opportunities. Women's liberation movements were a rightful movement. If we look at it purely genetically, women and men are not equal; they are different.”
“Women show more sacrifice”
Tarhan, referring to the male brain being selfish and women showing more sacrifice in all matters, said: “If women have to work, men should make sacrifices in helping their wives. In our culture, housework is always expected from women. Working women need to get men accustomed to this. Maternal instincts are innate in women. While women have a consolidating nature, men have a hunter-gatherer character, thus achieving balance. Female and male gender is biological. We can see the prevalence of attachment and compassion in women. These, in turn, lead to sacrifice. A woman's resistance to fear is low.”
“Global capital applies gender inequality in the world”
Tarhan emphasized that the concept of gender has become a global ideology, stating: “We observe that gender inequality ideologies are being implemented. North European countries are consciously and socially implementing this. Divorce rates are very high in those countries. Children are born out of wedlock in Sweden and Norway. The parents are known, the child is born, but it is given to institutions and the state. This is a very painful situation. The concepts of mother and father do not exist; 'parent' is written. Or 'caregiver' is written instead of mother. Many gender identities have emerged and continue to emerge every day. As the world population increases, population reduction policies are being carried out under the guise of projects and ideologies related to sexual identities. This situation is an attempt to implement a global ideology, and global capital applies gender inequality in the world.”
“Prophet Muhammad is a great Prophet of empathy…”
Tarhan also spoke about Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) attitude towards his wives and his respect for women in his marriages, saying: “In the Prophet's life, there was no patriarchal culture. There was no raising of voice towards women, let alone violence. His attitude towards his wives and daughters was always like this; what a beautiful morality. However, Muslims have adopted the patriarchal culture of Mesopotamia. While we should be following the example of the prophet of our own Islamic religion, what examples are we following instead? The Golden Age (Asr-ı Saadet) should be important for us. Prophet Muhammad is a great Prophet of empathy. He valued and cherished his wives. There was empathy towards women in the Prophet's life.”
