Prof. Dr. Sur: “Emotionality and Rationality Must Coexist in Medicine”

Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur met with parents and students within the Ümraniye Guidance and Research Center. Sur shared information with the participants about Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine and the medical profession.

“Students are the best reference”

Sur, giving information about Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine, said: “Üsküdar University has never lost its focus on health. It is a university that centers health. As the Faculty of Medicine is the locomotive of health sciences, special importance was given to Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine. Its infrastructure was built with very luxurious facilities. These facilities were supported by an A-team academic staff. With the support of NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital, these facilities were made even stronger. We have completed our first year in education. Our students are also very happy. Indeed, students are the best reference in these matters.”

 Sur, touching upon the medical profession and the qualities doctors should possess, stated: “Medicine can be defined as a profession where emotionality and rationality meet at their peak. A physician must be both rational and should not abandon emotionality. This is because people entrust their problems, their most private information, and even situations requiring the most dangerous procedures to doctors in their most subjective states. And doctors must benefit patients without betraying this trust. To be in such a profession, you must work with a professional discipline focused on understanding people but without abandoning rationality.”
