Prof. Dr. Nilgün Tekkeşin, a faculty member of the Department of Medical Biochemistry at Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine, attended the “International Biochemistry Congress 2023 34th National Biochemistry Congress” organized by the Turkish Biochemical Society. At the congress, Tekkeşin delivered a presentation titled “The role of the laboratory and its support to the clinic in the screening, diagnosis, and follow-up of monoclonal gammopathies; characteristics, differences, applications, and interpretation of results of immunophenotyping techniques in immunofixation electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis.”

The congress, held at Fethiye Liberty Lykia Congress Center, saw high participation.

About the Turkish Biochemical Society:

The Turkish Biochemical Society (TBD) was founded in Ankara in 1975 with the aim of bringing together all biochemists (clinical and basic) and molecular biologists under one umbrella. Over the years, the society has grown to become one of Turkey's leading national associations, with over 2500 members and branches in three major cities: Istanbul, Izmir, and Adana. Since May 10, 1978, TBD has held the status of a “Public Benefit Association.” The society has been a member of FEBS and IUBMB since 1978. TBD later became a member of IFCC (International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, 1997), FESCC (Federation of European Societies of Clinical Chemistry, 1997; now European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, EFLM), and BCLF (Balkan Clinical Laboratory Federation, 1998). The society has been a member of WASPaLM (World Association of Societies of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine) since 2013.

TBD has organized approximately thirty national and international scientific meetings with over 500 participants. National congresses are held at approximately 12-month intervals, and within the scope of these meetings, which are also open to international speakers and participants, it organizes courses/workshops on topics such as Biostatistics, Method Validation, Molecular Biology Techniques, Medical Laboratory Practices, Standardization and Accreditation, Information Technologies, Data Mining, Laboratory Management (Quality Management, Standardization, Accreditation, Evidence-Based Laboratory Medicine), and Advanced Laboratory Techniques (Electrophoresis, Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Flow Cytometry).
