Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, was a guest at the virtual panel titled 'Violence Against Women' organized by the Human Society and Civilization Confederation and the Questions with Islam platform. Tarhan, using the phrase "violence is not only physical", stated that in violence against women, the focus is always on the outcome, and that the causes of violence should be uncovered and the diagnosis correctly made.

"The only person who can commit violence against a woman is a baby in the womb"
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that there is an exception to violence against women, saying, "Only one person can commit violence against a woman. That is a baby in its mother's womb; only it can kick." Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, stating that the focus in violence against women is always on the outcome, expressed that the causes of violence against women should be uncovered and the diagnosis correctly made.
"Violence is not only experienced physically"
Stating that violence is not only experienced physically, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, "Beyond verbal violence, which occurs with raising one's voice, scolding, and shouting, a man or woman not showing affection to each other also emotionally harms the other party. A person subjected to emotional violence feels worthless and inadequate." Prof. Dr. Tarhan stated that jealousy and neglect are also types of emotional violence.
"Competitive relationships lead to unhappiness"
Tarhan, stating that feminism encourages competitive relationships instead of complementary ones in male-female relations, said, "For example, there are some Western-educated couples therapists who say; the family is not sacred, you are sacred... If you see that you cannot get along with your spouse, they say you are important, live your life. And they bring the marriage to an end." He used these expressions.
"Where trust increases, there is no violence"
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, stating that compassion is such a feeling that it is greater than love because compassion contains empathy: "Like a mother's feeling for her child, she loves her child more than herself... She prioritizes, but feminist love loves the other party's benefit, their appearance... These are selfish loves, that's why compassion is unconditional and selfless love, and it means a love with empathy within love... Where there is love, fear decreases; where fear decreases, trust increases; where trust increases, why would there be violence? There wouldn't be!" he said.
