The Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT), founded in 2013 and comprising distinguished researchers in neuroscience primarily from the USA, continues its global activities with the support of Üsküdar Üniversitesi and NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi. This year, Üsküdar Üniversitesi was again the sole university representing our country at the G20 - Neuroscience20 (BRAIN- SPINE- MENTAL- HEALTH) conference. While the delegation representing Turkey was presented with the "Global Neuroscience Leadership" award for its contributions and services in neuroscience, the delegation is now preparing to represent our country at the summit to be held in Brazil in 2024…

Led by Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector and Chairman of the Board of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, the delegation consisting of Fırat Tarhan, Board Member of NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital and Üsküdar Üniversitesi, and Prof. Dr. Türker Ergüzel, Head of the Software Engineering Department, represented our country in New Delhi.
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who continues his support for the global activities of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT), which includes distinguished researchers in neuroscience primarily from the USA, gave a presentation at the summit in the session titled "Opioid Addiction and Pain Management - Mental Health, Brain Health & Spine Health".
In his speech, Tarhan pointed to the four fundamental pillars of next-generation neuroscience transformation, and informed the participants about the NP model and flow diagram developed in collaboration with NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi and Üsküdar Üniversitesi, for which an international patent application has been filed.
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “We Aim to Treat Without Incision”
Stating that they have conducted important studies on "Science Policies in Neuropsychiatry", Prof. Dr. Tarhan noted that they continue to exchange ideas with scientists on 'treating without incision,' which is the future of medicine, and that as scientists, they aim to achieve this.
Prof. Dr. Tarhan emphasized the importance of personalized treatment, phenotyping (Therapeutic Drug Monitoring - TDM), the use of neurotechnology tools, and ultimately, deep learning-focused artificial intelligence applications being studied independently in each research institute, and also made evaluations regarding the human mind and quantum.
Reflecting and Quantum Receiver Mind…
Prof. Dr. Tarhan pointed out that recent developments in quantum physics have proven the quantum receptive aspect of the human mind and the relativity of time, and stated that studies in the quantum field show "a reflecting mind, a quantum receiver mind" and that science is a field echoing the consciousness of the human mind as a quantum receiver.
Prof. Dr. Tarhan also underlined that with the developments in this field, this is becoming calculable and measurable.
Deep Learning Model-Based Classification and Outcomes in Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder Discussed…
Within the scope of the N20 Summit, in the session titled "Neurotech Innovation: Cell Therapy, Artificial Intelligence, Nanomedicine & Supercomputing" chaired by Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, Prof. Dr. Ergüzel gave a presentation titled "Interpretable AI". In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Ergüzel discussed the deep learning-based diagnostic classification model of structural MRI images from 72 clients diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and 36 healthy control groups, recently completed within the NP model, and the regional distinctiveness mapping for the clinical interpretation process using the extracted features of the model.
Ergüzel highlighted that deep learning-based models are particularly important for establishing and interpreting the algorithmic conceptual communication language between engineers and psychiatrists, and pointed out the contribution to the literature of the findings from their study in the context of clinical interpretation results using Grad-CAM (Class Activation Map) and LIME (Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations) methods.
Fırat Tarhan: “We Aim to Be a Leading Center in Brain Research.”
Speaking in the session titled "Global Collaboration on Brain Health, Spine Health and Mental Health Research - Focus on Investments in Neurotechnologies" chaired by Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Fırat Tarhan, Board Member of NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital, discussed NPİSTANBUL's innovative transformation from past to present in collaboration with Üsküdar Üniversitesi, the work carried out in its polyclinics, and its distinctive advantages and innovations compared to local and global counterparts.
Fırat Tarhan provided information about the diagnostic methods used for neurosurgery, treatment units, neuromodulation center, and the work carried out in the occupational therapy and sensory integration clinic as a hospital, and noted that with its international recognition, scientific partnerships, and joint work with its academic partner Üsküdar Üniversitesi, they aim to be a leading center for brain research in Turkey and the region in the coming years.
‘Global Neuroscience Leadership’ Award Presented
Within the scope of the congress, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, and Fırat Tarhan, Director of NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi Healthcare Institutions, were deemed worthy of the ‘Global Neuroscience Leadership’ award for their contributions and services in the field of neuroscience.
Will Represent Turkey in Brazil in 2024
Üsküdar Üniversitesi, which was awarded along with all its participants, and its scientific and application partner NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi, are now preparing to represent Turkey at the N20 summit to be held in Brazil in 2024.
