Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan participated as a speaker in the 'Academy Talks' event organized by the Turkish Justice Academy. In the program titled 'Scientific Leadership', which attracted significant interest from judicial judge and prosecutor candidates, Tarhan stated; 'It is important for judges and prosecutors to be good leaders in today's society, and only a good leader can manage a courtroom environment.'
Three leadership types: Classical, Charismatic, and Scientific
In the program held at the Ankara Turkish Justice Academy Conference Hall, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that there are three leadership models: classical, charismatic, and scientific. In the program attended by 25th Term judge and prosecutor candidates, Tarhan stated; 'To decide about a person's leadership, one should not look at their current situation. One needs to look at their past and the decisions they have made and the steps they have taken over time. There are three types of leadership: classical, charismatic, and scientific. These leader types employ different methods in a wide variety of areas such as reward-punishment management, crisis management, motivation, initiative, idea generation, benefiting from experience, relations with bureaucracy, communication methods, ways of doing business, problem-solving approaches, and planning ability. Successful leaders have high emotional intelligence, are people-oriented, open to communication, visionary, courageous, and possess motivating qualities.'
“The classical leader loves backgammon, the scientific leader loves chess”
Prof. Dr. Tarhan also made evaluations regarding the communication methods of leader types; 'All three leaders build good relationships with the people they work with and love them, but the classical leader doesn't care much about emotions. They do not grow to avoid mistakes. They love backgammon. The charismatic leader is a poor listener. They desire to fight in communication, and love the game of football. They grow fast, and when they lose, they lose completely. Their own emotions are prioritized. The scientific leader, on the other hand, values empathy in communication, considering both their own and others' emotions. They love chess,' he stated.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that differences also emerged in problem-solving approaches. Tarhan said; 'The classical leader is afraid of problems, approaches them with temporary solutions, and does not want to take radical steps. The charismatic leader is not afraid of problems, they are courageous. They want to solve the problem immediately and fundamentally and attach importance to preventive medicine. The scientific leader, on the other hand, emphasizes protective medicine. They prioritize preventing the problem from recurring along with its solution.'
After concluding his speech, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan also answered questions from the judge and prosecutor candidates.
