Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, attended the 'Formula for Success in Business Life' seminar organized by Kuveyt Türk Academy within Kuveyt Türk Participation Bank. Tarhan made important remarks regarding the formula for success in business life, emphasizing the need to pay attention to goal-oriented details when pursuing success.

The seminar titled 'Formula for Success in Business Life,' held at the Kuveyt Türk Banking Base, drew significant interest from Kuveyt Türk employees.

If we don't take risks, we can't progress

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, provided information on the types of intelligence important for success. Tarhan stated; “There are types of intelligence that are important for success. One of them is logical intelligence, known as IQ. The second is emotional intelligence. While logical intelligence exalts being idealistic, emotional intelligence exalts being activist. It motivates a person to act. One dreams and thinks but doesn't take action. For this, emotional intelligence is needed; if emotions are added, thought turns into action. Physical intelligence is the type of intelligence that turns emotions into action. Here, self-discipline, focusing solely on the goal, and then being able to take risks are important. If we don't take risks, we cannot progress. For a turtle to eat, it must stick its head out of its shell. This is a risk for it, but you cannot progress without taking risks. Physical intelligence and social intelligence are important here. Being open to cooperation is also important. For instance, this is important in family communication as well. Is love a cause or a result in marriage? It is always said that love is the cause. However, they say 'love,' and divorce after 6 months. Why do they divorce? Because love evaporates. Love plus cooperation equals lifelong love. Here, the ability to cooperate with emotions needs to develop. This is related to social intelligence.”

He who manages his brain manages himself

Prof. Dr. Tarhan, noting that a person who manages their brain also manages themselves, stated; “Neuromanagement is managing our brain. He who manages his brain manages himself. In fact, the word 'politics' in Arabic comes from the root 'sayis'. What is a sayis? It means one who trains a horse. There is a wild horse within us. This wild horse wants to live as it pleases. If we cannot train it, the horse will want to go in any direction it desires. It says, 'I am the boss,' but if you train it, the horse will understand that it belongs to you from your arrival and will take you to your goal. Therefore, being able to tame the wild horse within you, or to manage the pharmacy in your brain – the molecules of happiness, anger, hatred, and jealousy in our brain are molecules managed by the brain. This is connected to all types of intelligence.”

Detail is important in success…

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan mentioned that having short-term and long-term goals and setting objectives enables the brain to be programmed in the most accurate way. Tarhan stated; “Having short-term and long-term goals and setting objectives enables the brain to be programmed in the most accurate way. Here, the first, according to importance and priority, is the time pyramid. Here, it is necessary to rank from more important to less important in the time pyramid. You allocate more time to subjects you consider very important. You don't allocate as much time to subjects you consider less important. Therefore, detail is important in success, and detail is in success. Some say, 'The devil is in the details.' These are two opposing things, but both are true. Because for someone who has set their goal, seeing the details while moving towards the goal leads them to success. If they don't see the details, or get caught up in unnecessary details, they miss their destination, and the devil is in the details. Therefore, while progressing on the path to success, we must definitely pay attention to details related to our goal. If we pay attention to details that are not our goal, it will be useless. You will set your goal, but if you have a talent for it and develop a formula, that is, luck is the intersection of intelligence and opportunity. There are butterfly hunters; what do butterfly hunters do? They constantly wait, wait, catch, gently pick up and put in a cage. When managing talent and hunting for talent in life, one needs to be this way. You will set your goal, wait accordingly, and catch it. No wind in life helps a lazy person who waits with their eyes closed.”

One who is not their own leader cannot be the leader of a family

Tarhan, emphasizing that individuals with a future projection progress in life, stated; “It is necessary to pay attention not only to what you do but also to how you do it. If you disregard the 'how,' you will miss many opportunities. Here, the time and attention pyramids are important for effectively utilizing our time resource in your priorities, and in your successes. The third step here is planning for the future. You should have roadmaps to follow in life, beyond the goal you are expecting. You must be careful of the traps on these maps. People with a future projection move forward in life. First, you need to know where you are; if you don't know where you are, there's no point in knowing where you're going. You cannot determine your roadmap accordingly. While drawing this, it is necessary to know yourself, then determine your goal, and then plan for it, and determine roadmaps. It is necessary to be a system-society. If a person systematizes themselves, if they become a system-society, then there is development in that society. If you say, 'We'll do it, boss; it'll happen, boss,' for a system-society, it means you are not thinking systematically. Then you become a good subordinate. One who is not their own leader cannot be the leader of a family. First, we will learn to manage ourselves, learn to manage our own desires and impulses, and only then will we be able to manage others.”

Courage is not throwing oneself into danger, but using reason and intelligence in the face of danger

Underlining that success and happiness are false in the kingdom of selfishness, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that the successes of selfish people are temporary. Tarhan said; 'A person's only rival is themselves; our fears within our bravery and confidence are the biggest obstacles within a person. Courage is not throwing oneself into danger, but using reason and intelligence in the face of danger. We said a person's only rival is themselves, but along with this, there are also skills that develop in this storm, such as patience, compassion, diligence, respect, and responsibility. If we take the right position during the storms we experience, post-traumatic growth emerges after the storms, and we can gain many new skills that can develop us, such as our sense of patience, compassion, respect, and responsibility. For this reason, here, the sense of belonging in success increases. If we fail, instead of looking for the fault in others, fundamental self-questioning emerges. Most children run around at home, hit the edge of a table, and the environment blames the mother; this teaches the child to attribute their mistake to an external cause. For example, someone commits suicide and attributes the reason to their mother-in-law; I know that they actually did things that would drive the woman crazy, but they are not aware. They seek the fault in her. Here, having strong beliefs in success, success and happiness are false in the kingdom of selfishness. The successes of selfish individuals are temporary, false, and not lasting. They scatter in the world of realities.'

At the end of the seminar held at the Kuveyt Türk Banking Base, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan signed the books of the participants.
