Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, made important evaluations regarding R&D and innovative policies. Stating that the current era is the “Time of Wonders”, Prof. Dr. Tarhan said, “Today, artificial intelligence and mind control are being discussed. The world is changing rapidly. There are super youths with supercomputers. The greatest capital is imagination. We have this, in Anatolia. Everyone should have an R&D project in their bag.”

Investment in R&D must be made
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, emphasizing the importance of R&D studies, also stated that a budget must be allocated to R&D. Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “If we don’t allocate a budget to R&D, let’s forget about the youth. Investment in R&D must be made. Universities must choose an R&D focus.”
The Greatest Capital is Imagination
Stating that the current era is the “Time of Wonders”, Prof. Dr. Tarhan said, “Today, artificial intelligence and mind control are being discussed. The world is changing rapidly. There are super youths with supercomputers. The greatest capital is imagination. We have this, in Anatolia. We must provide environments that will allow our youth to realize these imaginations.”
Youth Should Have an Ego Ideal
Emphasizing that young people must have an ego ideal, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “Our youth should answer the questions of what the purpose and meaning of life are. Otherwise, the youth will waste themselves. Young people need to set not only material but also spiritual goals. Absolutely everyone should have an R&D project in their bag.”
Referring to the concept of the “leadership circle”, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that the first quality a leader should have is trust, and listed three types of leadership: classical, charismatic, and scientific leadership. He noted that the ideal leader should be able to use all three qualities according to place and time.
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan also stated that one should manage their attention well, saying, “A team leader must be at the head of their team. Success belongs to the team, failure to the leader. Those who cannot be a team cannot succeed.”
Companies That Don't Do Teamwork Cannot Exist
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that there are some reasons why family businesses in our country are not long-lasting, saying, “Because there is a single leader, and they cannot delegate their work to their children. They do not do teamwork and cannot form a team. Thus, they are forced to collapse.”
Prof. Dr. Tarhan also stated that time management is important in leadership, saying, “A good time manager is a good leader.”
A Leap Must Be Made
“What we call R&D and innovative policies is a subject we have always emphasized,” said Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, and pointed out that a leap must be made by being able to look from a different perspective. Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, using the expressions ‘We have done what we could for years and reached a certain infrastructure,’ added, “At the point of a leap, we have created both an academic infrastructure and a staff who knows how to do it.”
