Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan evaluated the experiences of 15-year-old Melisa K., who committed suicide by shooting herself with a handgun in İzmir's Ödemiş district, for yeniakit.com.tr.

Speaking to Yeniakit.com.tr, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, evaluated the suicide of 15-year-old Melisa K., who killed herself with her father's service weapon in İzmir's Ödemiş district.
'Ages 15 - 25 are risky'
Prof. Tarhan, pointing out that suicides are most common in the 15-25 age range, said, 'When I look at Melisa's statements before her suicide, she had an indecisiveness. She didn't want to commit suicide. The biggest reason for her suicide was the feeling of loneliness she experienced.'
'Parents should be very careful during adolescence'
Prof. Tarhan, drawing attention to a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), said, 'Our Prophet (PBUH) stated, 'Adolescence is a branch of madness.' Parents of children in adolescence should act very sensitively. Raising a good child is much more important than being a good business person.'
'We cannot prevent this with feminist discourse'
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, stating, 'Today, we are experiencing violence by the powerful against the weak, not violence against women,' also explained the measures to be taken in educating family members, and touched upon the impact of the music culture called K-Pop on young people.
