Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, was elected as the Chairman of the Brain Initiative (MeBrain+ Initiative), which covers neighboring countries, especially in the Middle East and Balkans, within the scope of the activities of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT). Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who is appreciated for his support in conducting studies aimed at the widespread adoption and development of neuroscience research, particularly in our immediate geography, will contribute to training researchers in health sciences, especially neuroscience, under the umbrella of the MeBrain+ Initiative, with the recommendation of the SBMT board of directors and strong support from regional countries.
Established in 2004, the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT) leads the way in research and treatment of diseases, especially in the field of the brain.
Encouraging policies that rapidly, safely, and effectively transfer new technologies to medical applications to push the boundaries in brain health, and enabling researchers worldwide to gather at congresses each year, SBMT conducts scientific research through global collaborations in the fields of neuroscience, neurobiotechnology, stem cell therapies, and nanotechnology.
SBMT played a significant role in the planning, structuring, and execution of former U.S. President Obama's Brain Initiative, and spearheaded the G20+ World Brain Mapping & Therapeutic Initiative in 2013. In this way, it continues its activities as an association that disseminates developments in neurobiotechnology with local and global solution partners.
The 18th SBMT Summit, held annually with the participation of researchers worldwide, took place this year in Los Angeles, United States, between July 8-11, 2021, with the participation of Üsküdar Üniversitesi faculty members focusing on neuroscience studies and collaborations. Turkey's Consul General in Los Angeles, Can Oğuz, also attended the meeting.
The widespread, high-impact studies of researchers from Üsküdar Üniversitesi and our application and scientific partner NPİSTANBUL Beyin Hastanesi, especially in the field of neuroscience, also drew attention at SBMT meetings.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan was awarded the Golden Axon Leadership Award in 2018, an honor previously given to Nobel Laureate Eric Kandel, for his inspiring work in the field and his role in raising awareness about the foundation and its mission through strategic programs, global collaborations, and partnerships in brain research two years prior.
